I do agree that if you're going to just install it in a PC, update the firmware (or check it), it's easy. Where it becomes a hassle are when you've installed in other devices or are purchasing for them (like a PS5) and your PC only has a single NVME slot. Mine is behind the graphics card, so it's a process to install/remove it and then install your original afterwards.
If I were to purchase another today for a PS5, I probably wouldn't bother with updating it because it's a hassle (and for someone with an older PC, I don't think it's possible to update it?)

Reliability is more important to me than benchmark scores. They're all fast enough to not tell a difference.
I think if I had to pick though, it'd be the 850X. Whatever happened to the Samsung drives, I don't buy it was just a firmware glitch.
As also confirmed independently, I couldn't even tell the difference between a SATA M.2 and PCIE M.2 drive in a long ago test. Humans are not build to discern micro/milliseconds in difference, especially when you're doing the usual mundane tasks we use our computers for daily. Specs cost you money....
I will say that I think my 2TB 980 Pro may be a little faster than 2TB 2TB SKH P-31 on video conversions, but then again it's (the 980) paired with a faster processor and faster ram, so that kind of nullifies any imagined differences.
Buy the cheapest from SKH, Samsung, or WD and be happy. Just don't buy those QLC drives; they're not worth it IMO.
