Just to clarify, there is a listed tolerance for all cast iron plates, that is the whole point of a cast iron plate (non-milled, non-calibrated). Even the top name brands will tell you there is a plus or minus 1-3% tolerance on weights. You can spend a little money or a lot of money (e.g, Rogue) on cast iron plates and you'll still get a 43 or 46.5lb plate. Cast iron plates are exactly that, casted in a mold.

However, if you are someone who actually needs to know the exact weight you lift (a powerlifter or olympic lifter), then you will need competition grade plates which are 2-3x the price.

So, it's not a QC thing, it's a "how much are you willing to pay" thing.

I ordered this set from Amazon. It ships in 9 separate boxes with packing straps. UPS guy had no issues carrying one at a time, and it came split in 3 different days. There tracking comes with one main tracking number, but if you look is says 1 of 9 in this shipment. Also, it prints a label after about a week saying it shipped, but it will sit like that for a while. Then about 1 1/2 months later you'll see it actually have an origin scan at UPS in WA. My assumption is when you order it they produce it China, and ship it overseas to a port, and somehow transfer it to UPS to finally deliver it. Once UPS does the origin scan it takes less than a week to arrive. Packages are broken up like so: 45s, 35s, 25s, and bar shipped individually. Pair of 10s in one box, four 5s and both 2.5s in individual boxes strapped together under one label. The set is low quality, weights are under the actual weight, but when you lift them, they go up, and when you put them down, they go down. I, being a sick and mostly insane individual, bought a shipping scale for $20 that works up to 50lb, and 1oz tire balancing weights and tried to evenly distribute them to get them to the exact correct weight. If I max out on DL or Squat I want to know I did that exact weight, and not a few pounds less. May whichever god you pray to be with you as you order and wait what seems like an eternity for these to arrive. Also, the 45's that came are silver and a completely different style than what I order, and exactly the kind I don't like. I tried to reach BalanceForm and well, good luck with that. You get what you pay for, but for what you pay ($319 with tax) I think it's worth it, especially being delivered to you.

Good info. I recently bought 4 10s from an Amazon deal and they were all under weight as well. QC is lacking with a lot of these.

Decent price in today's market.

I think I'd go for style 7. Will be easiest to handle while changing weights and not as thick as style 5. I have a pair of 45's that are like style 5, and they are "short" and "thick".

Style 7 is the one I ordered. They are thin and wide, but I like them. If you deadlift, this will raise it up a little higher, but also make it easier lol. I used bumpers when I deadlift over a mat in my garage, and it's slightly less than that.

I like the thinner ones, makes it so I can load more on seated rows.

General rule- anything that requires a lot of labor, tipping is appreciated- enough to cover a decent lunch.

Anybody sane is leaving it in your lobby. No way someone who's already crunched for how much time they spend on each stop is spending close to an hour, risking injury carrying 300lbs up 12 floors by hand.

You should help them get it to the lobby or leave a $20 tip with the front desk.
