I'm assuming you are implying the TV's smart features are enough. If you are happy with those stick with them, but usually breaking those features into a different device comes with upsides. However, if the upsides are worth $100 probably depends on how the person values them. Personally I find most smart TVs pretty frustrating for streaming , but that might tie more into my preferences.

+1, I got a high-end 85" Samsung QN90B, but I'm absolutely shocked at how bad the Samsung UI is - slow, unresponsive and laggy as hell.

It's different. It's faster, has an Ethernet port, and ties into the apple ecosystem better. If you are happy with a fire stick then stick with that.

Is this a good deal or should I wait for a good deal on the 3rd gen?

Unless you have a Samsung TV that supports hdr10+, or really want the remote to have a usb-c charging port (instead of lightning) you should be fine with the 2nd gen. This is a complete summary/review:

But if I have a samsung TV, why would I want a streaming box for?

Serious question: Why is this better than a Fire Stick 4K Max for $35?

Thanks! I didn't need the new HDR stuff in the 3rd gen, so this will work great.

Movies or Songs should run in their same speed. Movies or Songs consume exact time with any player.
Yes, but it's the getting there that counts. Apple flips between menus and apps much faster.

2nd generation must be slower than anything made recently. Fire for 40$ will be faster than 2nd generation.
This is the 2nd generation of the 4K which came out in 2021. It's going to be faster than most any streaming stick.

Tangential, but I'm hoping someone can answer: I got the 3rd Gen last time this was posted and I also have an AppleTV 4K from a previous generation, and a non-4K AppleTV. The newest one makes content look like there's some motion smoothing (like the soap opera effect) and it's unappealing. I haven't found any setting on the AppleTV 4K menus that has to do with motion smoothing, and I have had it turned off on my TV (Samsung) since Day 1. Is there something else that the AppleTV 4K does that could cause this? Or an interaction with the TV? Like the frame rate or something?
TIA!
