CPU Intel core i5-1235 vs i3-1220??

629 70 February 15, 2023 at 03:32 PM Get Costco Wholesale coupons
HI All

I need a affordable computer. ONe computer has the Intel i3-1220p and the other one has i5-1235u. I went on one of these CPU comparison internet sites and was surprised to find the
i3-1220p is faster than the i5. I just wanted to make sure of this and wondering if anyone with alot of knowledge can confirm.

The two computer im thinking about buying are these two:

https://www.officedepot.com/a/pro...S34/#Specs

https://www.costco.com/acer-aspir...130a82b832

Im expecting the Costco model will go back on sale shortly for around 450 and with my gift certificate will be able to get it around 400 bucks. So its a battle between the Asus at 319 or the Acer at 399. I think the Asus is better reliability wise also, however the costco comes with an additional one year warranty.

thanks

Ehh. The i3 you reference is passmark rated higher then the i5, but honestly I would not touch an Asus on a bet (notoriously bad QC) nor would I ever get anything from Office Depot as they are notoriously over priced, but that is me.

If it were me, I would look to get something a generation or two older used from ebay or from the Dell Outlet. You should be able to get better value there, esp. for a lower to mid level machine.

My 2 cents.

The processors are actually pretty close they both have the same max frequency the Costco has twice the RAM and hard drive space. The RAM is usually not upgradeable to I would suggest 16GB no matter what you buy.

Maybe you already bought but if not, it helps to say what tasks you are doing with it.
