Sure you can. Section 179 IRS code allows 100% writedown of computer purchases first year they do not discern between new, used, or refurbs. That being said I buy them for resale. I own a computer store that sells new and refurbished computers. We offer computers from $99 to $50,000 servers. We've been in business for 28 years. By the way my first intern job out of high school was for the IRS in Holtsville, NY. I've been writing code since the mid-70's. Finally opened my first store in 1995. For the record most of my business is B to B. Most love refurbs..everyone wants to cost cut..I deal to government, non-profits, schools, etc. Most consumer model in the lower price ranges are built like crud. These are professional workstations and/or buiness models used in banks, hospitals, the military..completely different build quality. On this model--to get new about $1500 per or if you have folks doing 2D cad or solidworks -- you can buy 5-6 of these. Dell also knows they are going to see them again at end of lease--built better. Precisions, Latitudes are built completely different then Inspiron and Vostro. Same at HP. Probook, Elitebook, Zbook vs. Pavilion. Lenovo Thinkpad vs. Ideapad.

Upvoted, and would buy one if I didn't already have one. This is a commercial quality portable workstation, and I plan to get another 10 years out of mine as a home office machine.
Also... These usually come in excellent shape. Dell tends to be quite conservative with the condition description in my experience.
Thank you for posting.

Currently have this as my work laptop and it's a beast!! I'm a civil engineer and usually run heavy CAD, design and scheduling software on this everyday for hours without any lag.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I have a 10 year old Precision M6500 that is just kind of reaching end of life now. It is the best (and most dependable) laptop I have ever owned. It was built like a tank. A couple years ago, I replaced the power button (for about $20), replaced the HDD with a SSD (an old one from my Desktop that I prior upgraded….cost me 0), and added a little more memory, perhaps $75…and got another 2-3 good years out of it. I am currently debating getting an XPS, although, given the dependability and expandability, it did cross my mind to get another Precision. If this was Windows 11 compatible, I would buy it in a minute. Seems like a great price for this. And I agree……posting stuff on here is pretty rough. The number of people posting things that are negative has definitely increased over the years. People don't realize that it is sometimes worth paying extra for quality or for a company that stands behind their products (or builds them to last longer). Just because you CAN find a similar no name product for less money, does not mean it is of equal quality as the product posted.

How is this a frontpage deal on a old a$$ beatup computer. You can get 11 or 12 gen cpu laptops now if you look hard enough for a similar price.
These are more durable and the solder is better in these.

I love the build quality of 'corporate' machines, but I definitely start to question the trade off when you get to more than 3 or so years. I'm not worried about the machine dying, my issue lies in things like the performance of a 7th gen i7 vs. a 12th gen i3.

I understand that good enough is good enough...my work desktop was purchased 8 years ago today and was a refurb as well. It's an ancient i3 and I've added a second HD and memory. Still fine for internet, MS office, and video calls. $149 plus tax. My other desktop is a 1st gen i7 Acer that someone gave me. Top of the line gaming machine at the time and makes a great server/print server/backup device, etc.

Decent specs on the cpu and gpu. 32 GB is nice. Perhaps worth rolling the dice on the likelihood of Microsoft being forced to extend security updates for Windows 10 past the current stated date because of poor adoption rates of Windows 11. Microsoft extended Windows 7 support 3 years beyond the original date.

Does USB-C have PD (power delivery) or DP (DisplayPort) functions?

Snagged a Precision Mobile Workstation 5540, 32 GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and 4K display for $588 with sales tax and free shipping! I've purchased from Dell refurbished site 4 times now, and always a good deal! A few firmware updates and a windows 11 update and it's like new in a few hours!

Good luck finding anything built like the Precision line mobile workstations! Not going to happen, they're the highest build quality from Dell along with the XPS.

Pavilion is retail consumer quality = poor build quality and associated components NOT the same quality.
