From a supposedly T-Mobile employee on Reddit, here is the latest update (5/1/2023) on Autopay discount:

Source:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...ange_date/

The new autopay changes requiring a debit card or bank account to receive the discount goes into effect on May 18th.

EDIT: May 18th is for new and existing customers just enrolling in autopay

May 20th customers enrolled in autopay without debit card/back account/T-Mobile money will receive text messages over the next several months depending on bill cycle. They will receive a text message 30 days before their autopay discount is removed. Then a 15 day reminder, and again 3 days before. So the date for existing customers enrolled in autopay will vary from account to account.

Most reloadable cards are eligible for the autopay discount while non-reloadable are not and cannot be used for autopay.

Will update this post with more information as I get it.

This affects my cellphone protection from Wells Fargo credit card.
This is how tmobile works around price lock and gets the price increase.
Yeah I'm not a big fan of providing TMobile with my bank information when they've had so many breaches of data fairly recently... CC I don't care if anyone steals that info and why I use it for most payments

So basically the charge for using a credit card is a sliding scale depending on how many devices you have receiving the discount. That sucks. I would rather pay whatever the transaction fee is costing them. My main reason for using a credit card is 1. Data breaches and 2. Ease of disputing erroneous charges.

If that's the case you can use privacy.com's virtual "credit cards" which I believe show up as debit cards however they link to your checking so you then have to hope THEY have good security but of the two I'd trust privacy.com > tmobile.

Can make debit card numbers linked to your bank accou t through privacy.com . Cancel the privacy.com card if tmobile ever gets hacked.
Except this doesn't solve the getting cc points for paying your tmobile bill..

How much they get hacked giving them your bank account info is probably a bad idea
They get hacked at least once a year. But they assure you that your credit card info safe but everything else like SSN, Name and Address got stolen, so we give you a free identity monitoring for a year. Why only a year? because hackers have short term memory.

Agree, I pay everything with CC. But I don't prefer to give bank details or debit card details to tmobile

Unfortunately yes. But if you have concerns of providing your account info to tmobile, this is an option to be eligible for the auto pay discount.

With Tmobile data breach happened multiple times already, like someone said, do you really want to give Tmobile your debit card or bank info? So it is not just 5% increase if you only want to pay with your CC to avoid losing your debit/bank info to hacker.

For Verizon, I used to buy gift cards using a credit card and pay the bill using those. Maybe that will work with t mobile too

I used to as well. I'd buy Verizon gc in store for 5% cash and then use that to pay my bill, worked for about 2 years.

However, last year, buying the GC in store no longer triggers the 5% with either my Amex or my chase business cash

Have your purchased a gc recently in store and had it trigger the 5%?

I wonder if they'll let you pay partial with CC and the rest with autopay.
Autopay takes out whatever is remaining on the date that the autopay comes out. (Two days before the due date) So you could technically pay all of it except for a penny a week before autopay comes out and then autopay would take the penny out of the bank account. That's a lot of extra effort, though.

And they're possibly buying Mint, which would be the natural alternative for me. Sigh.
