From a supposedly T-Mobile employee on Reddit, here is the latest update (5/1/2023) on Autopay discount:

Source:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...ange_date/

The new autopay changes requiring a debit card or bank account to receive the discount goes into effect on May 18th.

EDIT: May 18th is for new and existing customers just enrolling in autopay

May 20th customers enrolled in autopay without debit card/back account/T-Mobile money will receive text messages over the next several months depending on bill cycle. They will receive a text message 30 days before their autopay discount is removed. Then a 15 day reminder, and again 3 days before. So the date for existing customers enrolled in autopay will vary from account to account.

Most reloadable cards are eligible for the autopay discount while non-reloadable are not and cannot be used for autopay.

Will update this post with more information as I get it.

First world problems ...but I feel you. 🥴

Personally I'd keep the cellphone protection and eat the $5 or buy your phone a case AND glass screen protector.

I would deal with it for $5 but I have 7 lines which is $35 a month.

What about paying in advance cash at the store? Will you still get the auto pay discount?

Exactly what I was thinking. First, they implemented the ridiculous "connection fee" for online phones purchases, now this. They keep eliminating the things that made them better than other carriers.

We get TMO Tuesdays, but the majority of those perks are largely useless to me. 20% off a socks-of-the-month subscription? Uh, thanks T-Mobile.

But buying Sprint would be better for the consumers and give them more choice! And we won't raise your bill! /s

Of course everyone with a brain knew it was BS.

Go on social media and tag t mobile and tell them how you feel. they've changed policies before due to customer outcry.

Also write to your local lawmaker to oppose the Tmobile merger with Mint. The major carriers buying out smaller competitors is text book definition if anti competitive practices.

or perhaps like someone else said: prepay with the credit card, but keep bank acct on file

"keeping your bank account on file" is the problem (in case they get hacked). If a company is going to get hacked and lose some of my info, I would prefer it to be a credit card.

I am not so sure the changes were so much with the merger, but probably more so with John Legere stepping down at the conclusion of the merger. T-Mobile has a new sheriff in town and I expect he is looking at financial KPIs differently.

I know this is inconvenient for most, but another option is to use 'that one bank account' you never use for anything or open an account somewhere specifically for this. *Make sure* to set it up to where overdraft protection is NOT on (meaning they will NOT pay the charge when your balance goes negative plus charge you a fee, instead they will decline the charge). Then just deposit/transfer the exact bill amount each month. If you keep it at $0 other than the monthly bill a day or two before it drafts, there's no money to be lost on your end when TMo inevitably gets hacked.

I would rather see them get rid of "T-Mobile Tuesdays" than doing this crap.

What are you talking about. My bill is currently 122 for 8 lines this will increase it by 40 to 162 which ~25%

Mine is $122 for four lines. How did you get that for 8?
