I was recently out shopping for soundbars. There are so many different types and so many different prices. It's difficult to figure out what is a good deal or not. I eventually found a refurbished Sony HT-G700 at Secondipity.
The Sony HT G700 soundbar came out in 2020. It is a 400 watt, 3.1 soundbar but through software emulation it supports Dolby Atmos/DTS:X - 7.1.2. While it came out in 2020, it's still being sold by many retailers today for $500-$600. I was in my local BestBuy looking at soundbars. They had this model on the floor. BestBuy priced it at $599 new with open box models down to $350. Amazon also sells it new for $599. Amazon marketplace has new, used and refurbs from $330-$599. Target has it for $599. Walmart through Beach Camera has it for $399 for a refurb. Crutchfield has it for $598 new. B&H has it for $598 new and $450 used.
I listened to around 20 different soundbars while I was at BestBuy. Most of the sub $200 soundbars sounded flat and dialogue wasn't always clear. At the $300-$400 range, I thought this was one of the better ones. It can easily fill a room with sound. It got much louder than most of the soundbars in this price range. In addition, I thought this was one of the better sounding soundbars. The dialogue was clear. The background noise didn't bleed into the dialogue. Music sounded like music. However, I thought the up sound and rear sound were a little phony.
I wouldn't pay $599 (or even $400) but at $249 at Secondipity - it seems like a good deal. TechRadar and others are still reviewing it (in 2023):

Here are some older reviews when it first came out:

It still holds up well for a 3 year old model in the most recent reviews.
This is a refurbished unit and comes with a 90 day warranty. You can return it for any reason within 30 days. If there's something wrong with the unit, Secondipity pays return shipping. If you just changed your mind, you pay return shipping (which will be expensive). You can add a 2 year warranty for $23 or a 3 year warranty for $32. (Don't put the warranty in your cart - they will charge you $36/$48 for it in the cart. CPS will send you an email after purchase, offering a warranty for $25/$32.)
I ordered mine two days ago and I received it today. While it did not come in the original box, it looks brand new. It was well packed and had all of the original items, including soundbar, sub, remote, batteries, cables, etc. My unit shipped with the latest firmware (2.113).
Setup was easy. I made a few tweeks in the setup. Subwoofer to 10 (max) and Audio Effect to Dolby Speaker Virtualization. I have it hooked up to LG C2 (42 inches) and it gets very loud in my room. It does support Dolby Atmos through software emulation. There are no up firing speakers, so don't expect the best Atmos experience.

Yeah, I had this on my mom's TV and recently switched her to that Bose TV bar that's floating around for $200. It doesn't have a sub or Atmos, but is actually sounds a lot more full + voices are greatly enhanced. I guess that's my .02.
Bose link?
You actually expect atmos on just a single soundbar? Your expectations are too high for limited hardware. Even if it had atmos support I guarantee you won't notice a difference. Upfiring speakers, in this case just from soundbar, ricochet the sound from the ceiling to simulate noise from above. It is a cheap solution to not actually having speakers installed in your ceiling but it's not that effective either. It may sound a little bit better with satellite upfiring rear speakers.

Yeah it would. Ceiling height would also impact the effectiveness.
I already know. I have an atmos soundbar so I'm telling you from experience.
