Not long ago, Costco had the 12th Gen i5 variant for sale for around $449. That would have run circles around this one. So, this is not a slickdeal even with i7 because it is 11th Gen.

Anyone know how good the physical build quality on Acer is? I have a 5-6 year dell that, as a professor, has held up to some good beatings, but I need to upgrade soon.

I would recommend you stop by at local Costco and see it (the seclnd gen), it will give you general idea about the build quality and also check reviews on Costco website

There have been complaints of the AC power pin being too small and also becoming loose on the i5 14" Vero, which I own. I don't have this problem as it mainly sits on my desk and I don't lug it around much. My vero comes with thunderbolt that also allows power with a USB power source, but it charges about 15% slower than the AC wall charger.
Looking at the Amazon pics it appears this i7 model has the same size AC pin jack, so it probably has the same AC adapter as the i5.

As a former professor, I've found that laptops do not make for adequate shields during most beatings. I've since taken up Krav Maga. My students are now more attentive than ever, and my laptop couldn't be happier!
