What is "S Mode"? Is that in any way a downgraded version of Windows? Can it be changed to normal windows without cost?

I think S Mode only allows you to install software from the Microsoft store, but you can change over to normal Windows at no cost.

I realize there are many tradeoffs with a $200 laptop and this one minimizes them. Anyone else wish this laptop had an Ethernet port? I have an older HP laptop with sporadic wifi issues along with a router that has occasional issues. Ethernet seems like a feature that offers redundancy from wifi failures,
Agreed, wired Ethernet is sometimes better. I recommend just using a good USB Ethernet adapter, can get decent quality gigabit ones for $15 or so.

This laptop is already outdated.
Most laptop deals on here are, checks notes, outdated.

I have never personally had great results with "cheap laptops"....but others have. And all this for $200, not bad at all. My guess is Microcenter is not making much (if any) on this at all. Just looking for a way to get you into the store, sell you some RAM upgrade, etc.

For $200, I'm Chromebook all the way. But if you need a Windows machine on the cheap, probably as good a choice as any I've seen recently.

This is true -- ethernet will always be the gold standard. But one big caveat is that current wifi standards have dramatically improved over the last 15+ years.

A lot of things come into play when dealing with a stable wifi network. The Ubiquiti mesh network I have running now at the house is SO SO much better than the one I had running at a previous house 10 years ago.

It makes perfect sense to my why manufacturers would get rid of that ethernet port.

The Core i3-1115G4 has the "Intel UHD Graphics Xe G4 48EUs" GPU which is pretty decent and comparable to the "Intel Iris Plus Graphics G4 (Ice Lake 48 EU)" found in the 10th gen Intel i#-10##G4 CPUs. Note the "G4" suffix = 48 EU.

That Ice Lake 48 EU is playable in low and medium quality [notebookcheck.net], around 60 and 40 fps (ranked #420 on the chart at the bottom). Note that "Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 (Ice Lake 64 EU)" (#343 in chart, found in i#-10##G7 10th gen CPUs) gets noticeably better fps but still marginal at high quality (33.6 fps). Many 11th gen "G7" Intel CPUs and 12th gen i5-12## have 80 EU which should be able to push 40 fps in high, but they are in the $300+ range. Recent AMD CPUs with Radeon/Vega 6/7/8 should be comparable if not better, a Ryzen 7 4700U Vega 7 was able to push 43fps high and 36fps ultra (#397 on the chart).

Does this have a USB-C port at all? The Specs don't list that. Is the Port Thunderbolt?
Also for some of these machines, even when the HDMI output said 1.4 in the specs, it used to work wth HDMI 2.0 or 4k@60hz. Anyone know if this is case with this laptop?

Does this have a hard drive caddy with ribbon cable for 2nd drive?

ALso, how accurate is microcenter stock? It's been saying "more than 25 available," but I don't want to drive 1 hour and then find out they tapped out after they promised ot have reseved me one.

I think is a duo-core machine and the Target states is a 6 core. My last 2 core laptop was nearly unusable, so I'd spend the extra on the Target one.
