Don't order online especially for family meal, I have observed each and every time the box is not filled up and is 1/4 empty, what's the point of getting family meal then. Since the top is wider if they leave 1/4 empty is basically getting only 1/2 entree.
If you order instore you are watching usually they fill it up
BOGO PLATE (BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE)

It said plate.. not bigger plate
It clearly said "plate", not "bigger plate". People like you who can't read and understand the simplest instructions cause so many problems in society.

I agree with you that in this situation, everyone could have done things better. At the end of the day, $1.50 for an extra side is not worth my time to push the issue with corporate and not worth the employee's/managers time to satisfy the customer when there's a line of patrons during the lunch rush. At the end of the day, this or any other comment section will never be the source of change for good. It takes real people out making change happen, not just commenting on it.
I wish my cashier was as nice as yours. I would have paid the 1.50 extra on both sides but they tried to charge me the extras as it's own side which was 5.79 for each so it came out to be over 11 extra which was more than a full size plate by itself. Who would pay that so I told them I didn't want it.

Which is most cost efficient, dollar-for-dollar: the BOGO, or the $8 off family plate?

Assume portion size is not a matter because you don't mind leftovers.
The family meal comes out slightly ahead with $8 off vs BOGO plates on paper but really depends on the server. In real life its going to be even as most servers will load up sides on a plate vs filling a box where you cant really load it more than its volume.
A family meal will get you 12 entree and 8 sides (large is 4x small) for ~$35 (Hawaii prices, YMMV). A plate at 2 entree/1 side with BOGO at $11 can be done 3x for 12 entrees and 6 sides for a total of $33. So really about the same. The family pack is an excellent value to begin with

Two entree plate came out to $10 after taxes. Inflation effect. Small bowl of Ramen is $15, Bahn Mi costs $9 and small bowl of Pho is $13. My paycheck didn't increase like this. How can new college grads buy a house now?
They can't unless you work in tech in SF Bay Area. Minimum $125K/yr as a software engineer. Just live outside 15-20 mile radius from work.

Quality of food gone down!
Bro, it taste the same as when I was in college 10 years ago lol. It's like saying the quality of McDonald's has gone down. I enjoy it for what it is -- like someone said, it's mall "Chinese Food". You know what you're gonna get going in.

Well, so have most restaurants.
Yep. When a teenager is getting $15 to bag groceries, someone is going to pay for that.

You have to keep scratching the 3 8 symbols until the code pops up.

I always wondered about this. I'm in NYC and I've never tried Panda Express because I'm surrounded by great Chinese (and Asian in general) restaurants.

For those with good Chinese food options - how does this compare? For whatever reason, to me I associate it with mall Chinese food.
Sometimes its pretty good, sometimes its "meh".

The biggest problem I have is sometimes I have to wait 10-20 for them to make something that they ran out of, meanwhile the food they already boxed up is getting soggy (for the breaded items) and lukewarm.

If you can happen to get everything made within the last few minutes, I think its pretty damn good, especially at the price point. It won't ever compare, tastewise, to your favorite Chinese place, so don't set the bar too high. You might find something you like. I personally don't like their Orange Chicken (which is their most popular item) but enjoy the Bejing Beef, Teriyaki Chicken and Walnut Shrimp.

Been getting "error validating cart" for a week now. Can't go to checkout page. Tried clearing cache, with/without VPN, no luck. If I remove the coupons, it goes to the checkout page instantly.

Anyone having similar issue?

I make orders on mobile since I'm unable to enter my name (and payment) on PC for some reason.

I find that some websites work better with a particular browser and have issues with others. I have Safari, Edge, Chrome, and Firefox loaded on my iPad and often find that different ones work better for certain things. Might be worth loading up at least one other browser to see if it helps.

Also, I think someone mentioned having a problem with a specific code and had to use another one. You might try a different code, like the readily available $8 off one as an experiment to see if it lets you through to the checkout page. Of that one goes through to the final page, there might be a problem with the other code.

Yup. That's what I see now too. But inflation really is most evident with takeout food. In the supermarkets, inflation is quite tame, perhaps 15% increase from five years ago. Buy on sale and you can do quite well. And you don't have to eat like college freshmen. I just brought home two large live dungeness crabs -$19 for both. A large nice beef shank, $5. Very fresh pea sprouts, 2lb bag for $5.

Depending where you live, options are different, but there's almost always ways to eat well without emptying your wallet.

Housing though, that's another issue. Then again, the days of college grads getting their first job and buying a house right away are long over. I bought my house when I was 30.

There's a silver lining to inflation: Being able to buy a home earlier in life is made advantageous by inflation. Equity builds up quick.

As mentioned in the "Original Post"... to sweeten this deal Costco has Panda Express $100 eGC for $80. Even if not a Costco Member there is only a $4 surcharge on the eGC ($84 total).

Surprisingly, Panda Express gift cards cannot be used at airport locations, universities, etc. I don't know why they have that restriction it's a freaking gift card.
