To some, the difference between that $20 Walmart rice cooker and something like this, will be small, and to some it will be huge. Both experiences are valid.
The main difference is that these kinds of rice cookers are superbly skilled at not just cooking rice perfectly, but keeping it perfectly warm and moist for hours and hours. Beyond that, they've added features like delayed start, timers, programs to cool things like steel cut oats and quinoa, brown rice, etc.
Example use cases I've heard of are, "Members of my household get home at different times, and the rice is always perfect and ready for each person."
Or, "I like steel cut oats to be ready for me as I wake up, and so I set it the night before, and around 6am the house smells like my grandma is back at home."
Or, "We use the Instapot to cook a stew, and this machine to cook rice, simultaneously."
If you are very skilled at using a normal pot at cooking rice, or very satisfied at using a $20 Walmart rice cooker, that's splendid. You should continue doing that. If you have a unique and clever way of cooking quinoa that you have mastered over many years, also wonderful. If you are not a picky eater, and doubt you will appreciate the consistency and quality of cooked rice these kinds of machines are able to provide, great!
In each of these cases you have saved yourself $100.
On the other hand if you do like cooked rice/oats/whatever that's more consistently cooked (soft when it's supposed to be, chewy when it's supposed to be, creamy when it's supposed to be), and feel like trying something new, this machine should be far better at making it than a $20 Walmart cooker.
Hope this helps.

I believe most zojirushi cookers take a longer time since they first soak the rice.
How is it with smaller cup measurements like 0.5 ? Does any rice stick to the bottom ?
