Excellent dehydrator, I have the version with less trays and it works very well, much better than the circular dehydrators IMO. Great for preparing backpacking/hiking meals.

400% better? In what ways?

Excaliburs are awesome and the gold standard in food dehydrators. Not only does it do much more even dehydration than the circular dehydrators, with the 9 trays, I would be surprised if it had 4x the surface area on which to spread out your food.

Circular dehydrators are like food dehydrators for "recreational users." Hardcore users with fruit trees in their hard who want to do "production dehydration" for the winter will want something like an Excalibur.

Do note that this version on sale only has a temperature control dial. Our Excalibur has both a temperature control dial and a timer dial, which we appreciate.

The main benefit is more even drying/airflow, so you don't have to rotate the trays at all, like you do with the circular units. Square trays also provide some benefits such as ease of adding teflon sheets for doing liquid-y stuff like fruit leathers, purees, and such. It's a bit like a Vitamix blender vs Hamilton Beach. Not everybody needs or wants to pay more for higher performance and a few bells and whistles, and that's ok.

I thought Cosori were the gold standard.

Great for drying 3D filament too.

With these types of dehydrators, the stuff towards the back, where the fan is, tends to dry faster, so it can be useful to rotate the trays.
