Hey did someone call? Lol... I actually had a 512GB M2 QLC drive... Ran great until I filled it up to about maybe 2-10GB left on it. I then tried to copy data from it to another drive, and it froze... Well I thought it froze, it was actually going about a few KB/minute transfer (not even MB...), But I endured because I had really important data on there. About 4 hours later it was done copying. I'm not kidding... QLC drives when filled up will remind you of 3.5" floppy disks.
So just don't fill it up?

This is a budget NVME M2. Don't put it in your PS5
It works fine. Only 2-3 seconds delayed when loading scenes. But it's still faster than loading xbox x games

I have a MacBook M1 Pro 14" which has thunderbolt 4 I believe. Will this be good to use for video and photo editing? And what enclosure would you guys recommend for this?
The problem is, most enclosures are capped at 10Gbps, which limits speeds to around 1000MBps. Even with a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure you're looking at around 1500MBps max which is far slower than a PCIe 4.0 drive. May as well get a PCIe 3.0 drive.

If you're doing an external enclosure, you may as well go with a SATA 3 drive.
Do you mean a PCIe 3 drive?

As a reminder, these are the Intel drives bought by SK Hynix and this is the new brand name for that acquisition as a result. Google it you don't believe it. I'll wait.

This is a QLC NVME and performance degradation for sustained write can a question. Suggest to buy a premium drive such as WD SN850X, SK P41, XC3000.

But PCIe Gen 4 drives are also around $50/TB, so why get a slower drive for the same price as a faster drive?

At some point down the road I assume USB 4 enclosures will hit the market. https://satechi.net/products/usb4...-enclosure

Maybe, but there is a current glut of NAND flash RAM causing these SSD fire sales right now, and it is expected to be over by the end of the year. If you're in need of a new drive I'd buy it sooner rather then later.

Yes and no. This thing is barely faster than the gen 3 nvmes. Only thing this would be good for is PS5ers on a budget. My personal recommendation is to spend the extra $50-60 and get a 990 PRO or SN850X, which are both 33% faster in read and write.
That's a rather narrow minded recommendation. This would make a perfectly adequate data/game drive for most people and an equally workable primary drive for a budget build. Not everyone needs or wants to spend on the absolute fastest components.

What this drive does need to get the most out of it is a PCIe 4.0 bus. It would not be a good performer in an older PCIe 3.0 machine.

Would this work on a 2015 MacBook internal upgrade with adapter?
