Instead I'm going to grab multiple huge 10 lbs boxes [samsclub.com] at around $1.30/lbs, use a lot of it normally, and maybe store some away in half-gallon mason jars with oxygen absorbers. I'd still need to spend more to get more mason jars but it should still come in cheaper than this I think. 5 gallon buckets with Mylar bags would probably be cheaper and more robust (not easily breakable like glass), but I like the individual half-gallon size.
This Augason Farms oatmeal would have more calories per serving from the sugar.

I agree rotating stock is the most economic choice. I guess this is more for institutional or other purposes where you will lock up your shelter and only use in emergency

For a prepper, extra calories wouldn't be a bad thing
for prepper marketing.
this much quick oats costs $3,
the sugar used is another $2.

Storing long term in plastic makes the food taste like plastic. Glass all the way.
Shoot, I didn't realize that.
I get it now... Each pouch has 10 servings!
All you need to do is have a ROTATING inventory of 6 months worth of food. In other words, keep 6 months of food in storage, eat the oldest stuff first, and replenish what you eat each month.
You end up paying normal prices, for higher quality food, instead of paying 10 times the price, for chemicals.

I always forget to rotate. I have at least a year's worth of food stored up.
