I'm asking this as someone who owns an Instant Pot - what's the difference between IP vs the cheaper more generic electric pressure cookers out on the market?

Really depends what you're comparing it to, but at this price, it's kind of a no-brainer. Instant pots have been around for a while now - they're proven, and they're generally at the top of all pressure cooker related reviews/shootouts.

The list of "reasons" you may choose an instant pot over a cheaper alternative likely would include: build quality, features/modes, control of heating, safety mechanisms, long life of product, etc.

I'd definitely trust an Instant Pot's safety mechanisms over some random china-direct brand.

My Duo came with the air fryer lid, and I don't think it's that great. The basket is small, and it's hard to move the food around to get it fully fried. If air frying really matters, I'd get something else. Otherwise, it's a nice multifunctional tool.

My father had the one you see on TV, Power Pro XL and I had a Cuisinart pressure cooker and the Instant Pot is better than both. They came with the Teflon inner pot instead of stainless steel and the controls and ease of use are much better on the Instant Pot. Plus you could place the lid upright in one of the side handles after you're done cooking with the IP

My Instant Pot didn't cost any more than other brands, might have even been cheaper when on sale. I suspect the build quality and reliability is better than most of those off brands.

Insignia has a couple models that look to be the same as the IP except you have to buy the stainless steel inner pot separately unless you're fine with the non stick Teflon.

I actually bought the Insignia 6 qt model for $30 to replace my dad's dying Power Pro XL. Don't use that one very often so I'm fine with the Teflon inner pot.

Hope this helps.

Good deal but I highly recommend the non-stick inner pot instead of the stainless steel pot. You can't stir while you're using this in pressure cooking mode so sticking is a big problem. You can always buy the stainless steel pot latter if you want it.
