Depend on where you are flying from, they will be expensive. My family was just looking and they were about $950 a pop.
Last time I was there, we saw people camping at Haleakala volcano, but they needed permits. We saw no beach campers.

Yep, friends went for this past President's weekend. Paid $35o each for the flight but paid $1k a night at a hotel they've stayed at before for $350.
You cannot camp on the beaches. There are plenty of campgrounds on Maui and a couple have bungalows to rent in addition to camp sites. If camping, highly suggest staying a couple nights in Hana, the campground is next to the 7 sacred pools and can walk to a black sand beach.
