1. Buying an inkjet is rarely if ever the best choice for non-photo printing because the cleaning cycles eat up your ink whether you use the printer or not.
2. Check the expected drum life before purchasing. It's usually worth it to spend more for the higher end model because the expected drum life can be significantly longer. In addition the entire printer is usually more robust for a longer expected service life.
3. If you are one of the rare birds that prefers OEM toner (especially during the warranty period) spend more for a printer that will take the super high yield cartridges which are significantly cheaper per page. You can pick these up on Ebay for 25% of retail if you are patient (though generic toner will cost about 15% of OEM retail)
4. The laser printers will use up your color toner when printing black and white! Make a custom monochrome printing profile for your printer that restricts it to use only black toner like I did with my Brother.
5. When the toner indicates that it is empty, it's really not. You can get months more out of a cartridge by resetting it.
6. Costco carries some pretty nice 24lb paper at a reasonable cost.
That's all I can think of right now. In general, paying more up front for a better printer will pay off in the long run.

So far it's been nice, the scanner works way better than my Epson Eco tank which just died, and it prints way faster and the documents look great. I tried printing on glossy photo paper and it works but the ink streaks, I wouldn't buy it as a photo printer.
It'll probably go on sale again

OTOH, If I were to buy a new printer, it would a higher model AIO Brother like the ones mentioned in this thread. HPs just aren't worth what they are asking for them.

I bought Ricoh SP C261SFNw on one of the many sales like this one - https://slickdeals.net/e/13098049-ricoh-sp-c261sfnw-color-laser-multifunction-wireless-printer-140-free-shipping - back in 2018 or so and I believe I paid less than $150 shipped. It's an amazing workhorse and while it is not without some serious flaws, I absolutely love that printer! Scanner ADF, full duplex printing, wi-fi/wired, fax
They were actually so cheap at some point that I was seriously considering ordering a few as gifts to several friends. What happened that similar printers spiked in price so sharply??
