One of the many investments that Leonard Green & Partners holds is a hospital company named Prospect Medical Holdings...
The problem is that it looks like they bled Prospect Medical Holdings dry by using the following strategy
Step 1: borrow $205 million to take company private.
Step 2: pay out dividends to yourself (in excess of $400 million).
Step 3: let the business fail, since you already made $400 million off of your $205 million investment.
That's oversimplifying things a bit, but the problem with this strategy is IT'S A SERIES OF HOSPITALS and the "stakeholders" include patients. Here is an interesting article on the subject if anyone is interested [propublica.org].
Moral of the story. I won't be buying anything from J. Crew.
Also, what's with all these comments treating j.crew like some pop-up Chinese brand? they're a reputed brand known for good quality apparel.
My price point for button down shirts is $15 or Less depending on the brand. These shirts are 100% Cotton.
I do not work for J. Crew or am an social media influencer. I just love good deals. I do take the time to format my posts. Yes, I used to be a deal hunter for SD.

After the (at the time) most successful IPO in retail history, J. Crew peaked in 2010 as a preppy but accessible fashion brand. This was when Michelle Obama or Kate Middleton would show up on TV appearances wearing their clothes. They were a force to be reckoned with for men's button down shirts, and their Ludlow suit was a runaway success - high quality Italian fabric, a modern cut, and a sub $1000 price point.
But with the recession, they went private, and had an identity crisis. They tried to increase prices and move towards upscale/more fashionable ($600 skirts, anyone?), but all they ended up doing was mess with classic styles that had made loyal customers. Professional women were the first to tune out. Slowing in-stores sales (too many mall locations in the era of online shopping!) led them to frequent discounts. They had huge inventory mismanagement issues that weighed on them. Quality declined. Meanwhile, they cannibalized their own brands with Madewell (which siphoned away women) and J Crew Factory.
In 2020 they went bankrupt. And well, here we are. They're trying to pivot again. $6.40 shirts. Some brands would rather burn excess inventory than liquidate it like this, and signal to customers that they should never even consider paying $80 for their shirts.
