Genuine question as I am not a tool export. Can someone help me understand what it is about these that could make them 10x worth and 10x the price of generic harbor freight tools?

Harbor Freight's Icon line is all knipex knock offs and priced accordingly. You should just go check out the difference between those tools and their cheaper alternatives in store. I'm not seeing a clone of this model, but they have similar pliers based on the KNIPEX 86 05 250

Kinda like the difference between a $30 and a $300 blender. (OK, you may not be a blender export either).
Basically, one is more fun to use, grips better, stays sharper, lasts longer, and worth it if you use it daily.
Some people just appreciate a good quality item which will last a long time.

That said, I have a bunch of HFT tools as well, like a cut off/grinder which I use about once a year. If I would use it once a week I'd look for a Makita or such.

Everyone is different, and it is good to have options. Peace

check out the youtube channel projectfarm. they do a bunch of tests with tools and give you a good idea what's good or not. Knipex is up there in quality, though pricey

Wow thats less than 30 a plier. The 12 inch/300 inch one is hard to get a good deal on.
Even Grooves [grooves-inc.com] (in Germany) want's $43.74 for the 300mm. So at less than $86 for all 3, I concur this is a pretty good deal.

Knipex are great. They were recommended to me by plumber I trust. And if you are professional - I'd suggest to get knipex. But for home one off usage I went with Amazon Basics knock off after watching some YouTube video with comparison. I've got them for $30 back in Nov 22 (currently out of stock)

Is 3 excessive for a homeowner? Seems pricey for a tool if you rarely use it

if you're not handy and don't fix things then go with cheap HF tools. if you wrench a lot and work on a lot of projects, you probably have knipex already. end of the day, this is a great deal.

Disregarding the millions of dollars in machinery, the warehouse cost, the electricity + other utilities to operate the facility, and so many other costs and you're 100% correct.

I have two of these Knipex pliers and they are legit. I do HVAC work and use a pair every single day in the field. Even though I have some I still bought this deal because I can wait the time.

My recommendation for the home user is get the Irwin Vise Grip brand button pliers. They're less than half the price and they withstood over 2 years of HVAC abuse before I replaced them with the Knipex. I prefer the Knipex for the smaller head to get in tighter places but the Irwin's served me really well and I still have them as backups.
