A lot of misinformation on this. Lots of clickbait making people pay for for stuff they don't need.
Did you see the videos on real world usage? 99% of the people can barely tell the m2 256 has a slower drive. It only shows up if you regularly move 50gb files daily. This guy shows it from a graphics design or photography perspective.

If you do regular dev builds as a programmer then you aren't using macOS, Linux instead and a have a different setup so you don't have macOS overhead. Alex zeskind.

Of course there are many other YT influencers showing artificial benchmarks. But very few day in the life of videos which show the real difference.

I have the m1 Mm but it has 16GB ram but only 256GB SSD (I added an OWC Envoy with a WD black SN770 500 GB external M.2 NVME SSD inside) and it has been phenomenal. I'm super excited about these new ones.

I have the base M1 Mac Mini similar to this one. Probably not meant for doing serious professional work, (although I'm sure it could probably handle it) it runs extremely fast even with 8GB of RAM. I can easily have 15-20 tabs open in chrome, with Spotify and a few Office programs running without any slowdown or tabs having to reload.

Keep in mind these take a HUGE hit on ssd speeds with the 256GB version because apple nerfed these by putting in one 256 stick instead of two 128s.

The minis with larger ssds use two sticks running in raid 0 which essentially doubles their speeds, meaning 2x faster transfer speeds, loading content, and more.

Probably not a big deal though if you're mainly browsing the internet and for general productivity.

All the base 256gb m2 macs use a single NAND chip. All the higher capacity macs use faster dual chip setups. (512GB, 1TB, etc)

Yes. If 8GB is not enough for you, M1 vs M2 doesn't matter.

If you are hitting problems with 8GB on the M1, you'll have similar issues with the M2. I didn't see those problems on chrome, but definitely had issues when running parallels or other heavy memory usage. 16GB was way better for me. I use both, but the 8gb beachballs more often.
