1400+ mg of salt, over 60% of your daily recommended intake per can for this "light" soup :/
Wow what a genius idea! Why get 12 cans for $12 (which can be consumed over a spread out period and stored for years) when you can buy a $150 instant pot and $30 worth of ingredients and spend 2-3 hours making a pot of soup that lasts a couple days?

These are regularly $1/can at national grocery stores.
Regularly a $1? Wrong. Not even close. Progresso and Chunky Soup has skyrocketed in price over the past 12 months. If you watched the news, you may have heard of high food inflation costs. It is the worst that I have ever seen. The year is 2023. The regular price at my local Walmart, Target, Lidl and Aldi is $2.29. Crazy. If you go to a Stop and Shop, it is way higher. Maybe I am lucky and Shop Rite has it on good sale for $1.59 but that is a rare sale.

What happens if you exceed the daily recommended amount of salt?
We possibly start foaming and die like when one pours salt on a slug

or

we all live to over hundred years old like the Japanese people who eat tons of sodium in their diet. Yet they are one of the healthiest and longest living people in the world.

Worry more about excessive sugar, excessive carbs, body fat%, exercising, etc. before some extra sodium. If you are so concerned, you could easily pour some broth out and replace it with water.

I am not giving up pretty much all soups (canned, homemade and restaurants like Panera soups) because they have some sodium.

They were $0.86/can at Shoprite during Thanksgiving. It's not inflation, it's getting suckered into a bad deal and then thinking 'well all the prices went up, I guess I'll just pay it'. Don't get suckered into price gouging. These are $1/can. I swear folks here have no idea how to shop anymore.

Thanksgiving was 3 months ago. In NY, prices are way different than some other states. Shoprite used to have Progresso and Chunky sales regularly for $1 each before the pandemic. I used to always shop at Shoprite pretty much weekly. The $1 deal was so long ago and before the pandemic. In NY (Long Island), the sales for $1 are rarely ever seen especially with the huge skyrocket food inflation. It has been before the pandemic since I seen a $1 can deal. I know the meat prices, egg prices, canned soup prices are us being price gouged but what can we do? Give up on eggs and meat? Give up on all canned soups? If one makes homemade soup, you are still paying inflated prices with the ingredients and you really can't make a huge pot and store it in bags in the freezer especially with noodles and cream based soups. Nasty. You will eating a ton of soup in a couple days and that isn't healthy.
