In Vietnam, there is Nha Trang and Da Nang, both are resort towns with major brand hotels, as well as lesser known brands. First world amenities at third world prices.

I know this is a very first world problem here, but just came back from Maldives 2 weeks ago. We stayed in an over water villa (at the W), and also had an opportunity to stay at a beach from villa as well. Having tried both, I think this really comes down to whether you want convenience or something scenic. Over water villa is cool and all, but you spend a lot of time walking back and forth to the main island area and beaches. The beach front villa gives you the convenience of walking out your door and right onto the beach. No need to lug around your gear - the beach is right there. Also, food and other amenities are usually on the main island so less walking to those as well.

$500pp/night isn't that bad, especially when it's all inclusive. On these islands, it doesn't take much to rack up a a $2-300 bill on just dinner alone without alcohol. You can't just walk down to Mc Donald's and grab a Big Mac when you're feeling hungry.

The Maldives definitely is one of the bucket list places for most people, and for good reason. The atolls there are spectacular, and the snorkeling and diving are second to none. Most of these resorts will likely not pack everyone in like sardines, so it'll still feel intimate and not crowded even at full capacity (aka: Waikiki as a comparison)

$500/day per person seems crazy high to me. That's probably $1000/day for most people.

There are just SO MANY alternatives that come in closer to half this cost or less.

EDIT: Lots of people have replied already to disagree. So I request that you don't also. Thanks.

was gonna say that's not enough for japan then read south korea and laughed out loud haha thanks for the laugh
lmfao, not all of us are multimillionaires with unlimited time on our hands. I wouldn't be going there to live for 6 months... just a quick adventure... if Japan was the main adventure, SK and other countries would be like side quests of 3 days in a single location/city just because I'm already half way around the world. Have done the same in Europe - eg. (My favorite) Turkey in 7 days mainly concentrated in Istanbul, up the Golden Horn, up the Bosphorus to the Black Sea, saw every major landmark, up and on the road before prayer calls started every morning out til 11pm at night. Then Athens in 2.5 days on way back - as many ancient sites around Parthenon down to Pireas as we could see.

Maybe in 15-20 years I'll be able to galavant around the globe on a longer timeframe and learn more, but the world is a huge place. Til then, happy to have supplied you a laugh Wink

No worries I'm just kidding, if japan was your focal pt you could prob use it as a travel hub and go back and forth(but thai would be cheaper) but having lived in Korea and visited Japan, Japan is def the most expensive of all asia. Korea def has a lot more tourist things to see and food is more western/foodie-friendly. Europe and USA are the most expensive destinations but aside from airfare(if u book in advance and get deals) asia is prob the best value as far as technology, luxury of stay, food and service. Turkey is pretty cool after you get used to getting woken up at 5am every day from the Muslim loudspeakers, they def love their yogurt there haha but the lamb and desserts are awesome

I'd love to go to the Maldives and see the Sea of Stars. If I die, let that be the last thing I see.
Whatever you see right before you die is always the last thing you see. Kinda like the place you eventually find your car keys being the last place you look.

Any recommendations for someone with a honeymoon coming up?
Tell your new spouse you love them. Frequently. And use mouthwash.

I need to find a partner to do Asia tour lol - totally want to go to Japan and do 13-20 day trip across country. Maybe do 2-3 day stops in SK, Cambodia, Thailand, etc. and spend a month.

I'd try Conrad Bora Bora before this deal if you can still use credit card redemptions especially if you're playing 2 player (1x free night on 2x Hilton card on standard night + nearly 1x free night from signup bonus x2 points).

You dont need a partner. Dont wait. I traveled 5 months solo through Ph, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Some of my best travel experiences were traveling solo. Sure, sometimes it gets boring, but the other times make up for it.

Looking at stay/flights when I could actually go and the flight alone (for 2) costs more then the stay itself. I'm sure that's pretty standard these days but I can't help but feeling I'm getting ripped off when the damn flight is more then the trip...

All inclusive is tougher to fund in French Polynesia as well. If this deal includes sea plane or boat transfers as well, it's a decent price for what you're getting.

Some of these expensive places you go for the exclusivity - just like in Manhattan or west palm beach. Cost of doing business in small islands is also very high - there's islands like Canouan, Moskito, Jumby Bay, Mustique, Musha Cay, etc. right here in the Caribbean that cost way more than the Maldives.

Have you considered Trenton, NJ or perhaps Baltimore, MD?
Yep. I was actually considering it until I saw that too. To each their own, but no thanks. Deal breaker.
