I have a 240GB Sandisk Extreme that went into service in 2012 that I've been using as my C: drive all this time in my main computer. I don't shut it down and my computer has basically been on for 11 years. Are these drives made the same as those old ones?

No. If only because "Extreme" > "Plus". ;P New Plus drives are likely TLC or QLC without any dram cache. Older Extreme looks like might be MLC and maybe with cache. The Sandisk Plus SSD might be faster just because it's newer, but still not really 'better'.

I bet you paid today's 4TB prices for that one? 😆 Regardless, you definitely got your money's worth.
Edit: Comment from June 2012 Lifehacker article:
"I bought a 240GB OCZ Agility 3 a few months ago for $260. I'm loving how cheap they're starting to get. And just as somebody else mentioned before, I'm never letting my OS run on a standard HDD ever again."
$0.82 per GB during the time that article was written, down from $1.00, some holding for $0.65.
2023: 4TB Sandisk Ultra 3D SATA SSD: $230.00/4000 = $0.057/GB

I think MX 500 would be a better choice if the pricing is similar
They are almost the same price - the MX is only $2 higher.
The bullwhip effect has commenced.
The retail apocalypse has started.
Get your $ ready fella's because there are going to be some steals and deals in the future.
Only if you have the $ that is.

This is always the best time of the year for deals. Too much of last year's product left. Gotta go.
I wholeheartedly agree 👍🏽...

mx500 the 512gb dram is the main difference and keeps sequential speeds tolerable even over usb4/tb
the lack of dram will put the other drives down to 80mbitps which is super slow to max bandwidth of sata which is 550mbit
