I have a nice scar on my left hand where a non-impact-rated bit snapped off and then the jagged pieces left of the bit drilled into my hand which was holding the piece I was screwing together. So yeah, moral of the story... use these.

These come with the bit holder that you chuck up in your impact driver, then swap out the little insert bits as needed. It's the silver thing at the top of the picture.

How do you use these short bits? Maybe in a small handheld screwdriver with interchangeable bits, but chucked in a power driver you can barely see them while working.

guess a lot of people will have this in common with their other tools.

I only use short bits. cheaper. the big buckets [torx] [10-25 pounders or more] of screws usually only come with 1 bit, they'll last me the majority of the bucket. same with squareheads. I use bit extenders though. usually a 1 to 1.5". you don't need longer bits unless you're over driving or in a tight spot. phillips get chewed up easily but them even less will I need anything longer than the 1", except on double sheet drywall driving at an angle to catch a lip.

to each their own. some people buy 2" plus exclusively.

Yes they are inexpensive enough to consider using bit extenders but the little bit of aded slop and the bulk make these a no-go for me.

They make these things called extensions. Ground breaking stuff.

what, really? I never realized that. I've been using my regular bits. Thought these resist breakage and that's about it.

thank you.

It is a YMMV. They took that out of the topic when it hit front page I guess.
