Discover Card just announced April-June 2023 Cash Back categories. You can enroll now to begin saving NEXT month at Restaurants & Wholesale Clubs.
Pro tip: Costco.com accepts Discover, where you can buy Shop cards which can be spent in physical clubs where Discover isn't accepted. Also Restaurants commonly run Mother's/Father's Day gift card promos during Q2.
It was always necessary to enroll to earn, but this is the first year that I can remember where they didn't announce the full calendar far in advance.

Buy the Costco Shop card from Costco online and get the 5% ($75) in one go!
Note that it took 1-2 weeks to get the card by mail

I believe so. Have been doing this for 5% in grocery stores. Basically the bank can only see you spend this amount of money at this location, but Smith's stopped taking CC for visa GC last month. Sam's should be fine though.
Unless you get a shitty store like the ones in Queens, Ny.. militant store employees think they protecting something special or making members standing on line feel good about paying for a membership.
'Oops. Something went wrong. We apologize for any inconvenience, but the rewards calendar is not working at this time. Please check again later.'
Anyone???

Maybe next quarter… the first 2 quarters of 2023 with chase freedom flex were very much useless for me.
When the extra 500 they give back to the customer nets them 700-1000 extra per customer to pay for the overhead.

I can't know the prices before that discount was implemented but my suspicion is that it's just another way to sneak that CC fee on top.
It is.
The "cash price" discounts went away shortly after merchants tried it (mostly it lingered at gas stations).
The contracts the merchants agree to in accepting branded credit and debit cards (MC, V, DS, AE) with their banks expressly prohibit them from charging a different price based on method of payment.
It's not illegal, but it is a contract violation. MC, V, DS, AE will all notify the merchant's acquiring bank that contractual penalties (to the bank) will be applied to that merchant's transactions if they find out. Acquiring banks will shut down that merchant's accepting any credit cards when they have to pay for their merchant's shenanigans.
The card brands certainly don't want "cash discounts" - they want you to use your card. So they used their contracts to charge big fines whether the merchants try to "discount" other payment methods or charge extra for paying with a card.
The proper place to report a "cash discount" or "card surcharge" is with the merchant compliance department at any of the card brand logos displayed at the merchant or on the payment terminal.
Unfortunately, it is *not* illegal to charge a "service fee" just for accepting electronic payments - as long as there is no difference in the fee based on how you pay. That's still left as a "freedom" for the business to decide and "let the market decide" laissez faire capitalism we have in the US. i.e. charge too much and you lose customers to your competitors who charge less.
discover was charged $1500.
got separate emails for each giftcard with barcode in an hr which is how i realized i ordered the digital version.
costco.com said to bring the barcodes to member services and they'll xfer to physical gift cards.
did that.. easy peasy
I get home and i notice additional charges to discover from costco.com.
Each charge is in the amount of the giftcard.
called up costco.
csr said for digital gift cards, each is billed separately.
the original $1500 is just pending and will drop off in a couple of days.
I'm glad i had the available credit line to float $3k worth of charges
What card gives you 4% at Costco??
Discover cannot be used Costco in-store. It can apparently be used online, however Costco online prices are often higher than the store, for items sold in store.

But if u use the discover cash card with the 2% executive then it's ""almost"" 5% discover + 2% executive on item purchases in store
