This is a somewhat low-spec AMD based X13 Gen 1 that is in the Lenovo Outlet store.
Caveat emptor:
* The GPU will likely take 1GB of RAM, leaving only 7GB for Windows.
* The RAM is only DDR4-3200.
* The CPU's single core Geekbench score is around 1050.

UPDATE:
Website now says $470 and Available Soon. So perhaps more are on the way.

8GB is adequate for most.

Many people run Linux on Thinkpads. For that purpose it would be OK, but not great.
It's a cheap machine and you get what you pay for.

Refurb with 2 year warranty = 2 years of problems.

Every refurb has 2 years of problems? Wow! No wonder No-one EVER buys a refurb. In fact Lenovo doesnt even sell refurbs on their outlet site.

you are right- yet again

Dude- this would be an excellent deal is it wasnt 8gb non-upgradeable ram

As I stated originally there are several downsides. Only 8GB. Only the slower RAM. Only 1050 Geekbench score. But it has several positives: hexacore CPU, IPS display, and it is a Thinkpad. Therefore, some people (not you) might find it quite sufficient.

Ive owned the workpad z50 (winCE), x60s, x61, x220 tablet, w530, t480, p51, and p15 (my current machine.

Youre basically get corporate-level support as an individual with thinkpads. Good on-shore support, quick turnaround for spare parts, and an established corporate hierarchy which will see that your issues get fixed even if it means getting a brand new machine.

As units themselves, thinkpads are extremely durable, with a top-shelf keyboard experience. Little touches like weeping holes for spilled drinks on keyboard are so nice. They use normal m12 screws so its easy to open. You wont get bells and whistles such as RGB or high refresh-rate screens. But you get the oddities which come with work usage such as smart card readers, fingerprint readers, and privacy shutters for the webcam.

Mostly repairable (although this is less so with more recent models, especially the lighter ones). You can also get parts quite cheap on your own, such as docking stations, chargers, etc.

The machines themselves are also very muted and minimalist (the initial inspiration was a japanese bento box).

Used thinkpads are EXCELLENT purchases. Corporate leases lapse and very usable machines are dumped onto the used market by the truckload. You can get a very competant x280 or x390 for $200 and change, and it will do most of what this machine will do, although the CPU will be older (but still quad-core). You still get serious durability (just make sure to flash thunderbolt controller if you have something like a t480, because of an odd bug)

Negatives are myriad so make sure you know what is coming:

- You may have to flash bios to install a third party wifi card
- Recent machines have soldered memory, but more important...soldered DC jacks. If the machine doesnt use USB-C, and the DC breaks off...good luck.
- Webcams generally suck, even for $8k workstation laptops
- low diversity of lineup (there are many different lines at lenovo itself, but they seem to differ in budget and build quality more than actual features)
- the screens can be BAD. seriously, bad. Up until maybe 2017, youd see TN 768p crap everywhere. The community is rife with people who do IPS mods on older models. I got the x220 tablet over the x220 because of the guarantee of a decent screen experience. They are now in the world of 2k/4k (esp with 16x10 screens), and OLEDs are in a good amount of them (I am using one now)
- Some of the upgrades are stupid expensive (the dock for my machine cost $400!!!) But when machines are made for OPM crowd, what do you expect?

They are basically the antithesis to Apple.

I've owned a bunch of Thinkpads.

Let's see, Thinkpad 560, 560e, 560x, 760, 380ED, X31, X40, and some newer ones that were less exciting.

I bought several of the early ones from this (now defunct) asset recovery place:
https://web.archive.org/web/20040...rameP.html

The Thinkpads coming out in past 2-3 years have looked pretty good, but I was a Macbook Pro user until quite recently so I ignored Lenovo's progress.

Nowadays if you want a vintage Thinkpad you can check Goodwill's auction site.

Not a deal at all. I bought a T14 AMD with the same processor, also new, from Lenovo direct, for around $550 back in 2021. That had upgradable RAM. Two years later and the same tech for $510?
