I was able to get this down to $83 by buying a discounted Best Buy gift card from GiftCardGranny or CardBear or whatever you'd like.

Don't waste your money on a Gen 1 pencil. They are horrible. If you forget to charge it for a month the battery might drain itself to death.

Apple Pencil 2 does not have the same compatibility as Apple Pencil 1, unfortunately. So that might be why the price of 1 is not going down. Pick an iPad and it would only be compatible with 1 or 2 or neither, but not both, according to Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211029

Even worse, you can buy knock-off models on Temu for like $4. These seem like a huge waste of time except for a few people that might use them for artwork or just want to look cool to others at Starbucks.

Happens on the 2nd Gen as well. I usually charge it with my iPad every time my iPad need to be charged so I don't forget, then when I'm not using it I keep it far away from the iPad so it's not constantly "waking up" and going to "sleep".

I bought a knock off for twenty something. It works with wireless charging hence is more expensive than other ones. The original is pressure sensitive where all the knockoffs aren't. Putting this out there for anyone that wants to save a buck.

Except that we don't have a choice. I have a 9th gen ipad which is only compatible with the Gen 1 pencil.
