Chase SW cards get 3x points, and points are worth 1.5 cents each, resulting in effective cash back of 4.5% using the Chase SW buying tix directly. This discount is 14% off, plus you can use a standard cash back card to earn an additional 1.5%+ rewards on your credit card.

So 15%+ discount with this deal vs 4.5% opportunity cost. It's a win.

Arguable you'd be better off using your Amex Plat than the Chase SW to buy airline tix at 5% cash back, as Amex points generally are worth about 1.5-2.0 cents per point, resulting in an effective cash back rate of 7.5-10.0% on flights.

Ok got 2, got the initial email, then got the cancellation email 4 minutes later. Why, Costco, why?? It's not an issue with my cc!

You can stack this at cashback sites for another 3 to 5% back. Slickdeals might not like that, however.

Normally, I skip using gift cards with Southwest and use points instead, it makes it easier to rebook as prices fall. However, now that swa never expires refunds, gift cards are back.

Received my gift cards 5 minutes after purchase. I had a credit card saved on the account. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
