Fast forward to recent times - About 2 months ago, I started looking into GH (Gloomhaven) again and how to play. Well guess what? Jaws of the Lion (JOTL) is NOT simply a smaller version of GH. JOTL is an ON RAMP to Gloomhaven. It has 5 introduction scenarios that each add a new layer of play, and bring you up to speed in a way that makes sense, is fun, and you are getting wayyyy more fun out of this box than the price tag would indicate. All of the sudden - you're playing GH. My kids (ages 16 and 22) and I are now about to finish the JOTL campaign and now we are so stoked that we can finally break out that big ol' intimidating GH box next and actually PLAY the OG game! I'm now a fan, and although JOTL has seen a price point as low as $20, I would still argue that $25 is a fricking steal for how much gameplay is packed into this box. Plus, if you're on the fence about Gloomhaven you'll want to start with this anyway. Strong recommend <3
I hope this message helps someone else out that has a GH box just sitting on the shelf of shame like I did. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk!
This is a great price for the game -- there is a massive amount of things in the box and the storage solution that it provides is pretty good (though lots of baggies floating around on top of all the cards and cardboard). The setup is relatively quick. Can be played single-player (playing as 2 or more characters and controlling the AI). All four of the Character Classes are interesting and synergize very well with each other.
25 scenarios around 1.5-2 hours each. Worth the money at anything under $40.

I highly recommend this game at any price point, including it's MSRP of $50.
There is literally hours upon hours or gameplay, character progression, story line.
This just feels like robbery.
P.s. this game takes long to setup, it actually destroyed our game night because people became conflicted between wanting to play this and wait for the setup time

my promise is that it gets easier and more enjoyable as you play. go watch this series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCpQqrC
you can't really play without it. also google your questions and write down the answers in an FAQ (for some reason I tend to ask the same question multiple times)
Also, if I like playing this, would playing Gloomhaven be a no-brainer to play?

If you like JotL, you will probably like the original Gloomhaven but be aware of a few things:
-Setup is way more involved. Like, add 45 minutes. Get an alphabetized accordion organizer for the map tiles. The Gloomhaven Helper app alleviates a lot of the pain here and I would personally call it essential, but some people are weird about using an app with a board game.
-The rules are slightly heavier and the game can be laughably difficult on some of the scenarios. A couple of house rules (such as failing forward) make the entire game much more enjoyable.
-It's a significant time investment to make it through the campaign. The nice thing is, you don't need a consistent group of players to progress as the design allows for people to drop or be added as needed.
Imho Gloomhaven (after a few rules tweaks) is still the best dungeon crawler AND best legacy game on the market. At a super affordable price when compared to the average $400 kickstarter, it's well worth jumping in.
