Verify the Sound settings on the TV:
That last setting is very important (otherwise the TV would do the surround processing), as is the source material being played.

After watching some movies in Dolby Atmos, I was surprised to see how well the soundbar could keep up with the sound system in my living room. If this soundbar had a subwoofer output so that you can use any subwoofer then it would be a PERFECT alternative to an AVR.
This is not to say that the subwoofer the soundbar comes with is not good, as it does offer pretty good bass that can be felt. It's just that in comparison, my TV2112 subwoofer can literally shake my entire house to the point of inducing fear and the Samsung sub can't. Which I'm fine with since it's only for my bedroom.
At $950 vs. my $7K system (paid more like $6K), this soundbar is well worth it.
