Interesting. Didn't know this was out. Can't imagine needing more from my $99 last Gen Hubitat, but I guess it's good they're still supporting the product lineup.

What's so great about this to pay $50 more than the C-7?

Does it support the new Matter standard? Edit: Yes, found a description. It will support matter/thread eventually: https://community.hubitat.com/t/n...sed/113392

Found a Hubitat youtube video too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM23Y9DebSw

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Hubitat Elevation Model C-8 home automation hub. With new radios and hardware, the Model C-8 hub delivers a boost in performance while maintaining its commitment to truly local home automation.

New features of the Elevation Model C-8 hub include:

Z-Wave 800 radio
Zigbee 3.0 radio (IEEE 802.15.4)
Wi-Fi and ethernet network connectivity
External antennas for Z-Wave and Zigbee
USB-C power adapter

The new radios, combined with the external antennas, increase the range and reduce RF latency when communicating with the more than 1,000 smart home devices that are compatible with the Hubitat Elevation Model C-8 hub. With the recent addition of the Apple HomeKit integration, the Hubitat Elevation hub is also compatible with all of the major voice assistants from Apple, Google and Amazon.

Now with integrated Wi-Fi radio, setup is simpler than ever using go.hubitat.com 125. Hub placement options are opened up, no longer requiring an Ethernet connection. Ethernet is still the recommended best form of hub connectivity.

A free migration tool allows current Hubitat Elevation Model C-5 and Model C-7 owners to transfer all of their automations and Z-Wave and Zigbee devices to the new Model C-8 with just a few clicks. Our Hub Protect subscription service 53 will now support backup and restore of Zigbee radio as well as Z-Wave radio and then entire user setup for C-8.

The new Zigbee radio in the Model C-8 is Matter/Thread capable, and a platform update to add Matter compatibility is expected later this year.

Longer range and a better upgrade path. Matter is supposed to be included before the end of the year.

I have no issues with my 7. Even worth upgrading at all?

Interesting comment in a reddit discussion for people upgrading :

No reason to toss the old hub. With a dual hub mesh we can off load CPU intensive tasks to the second hub leaving the new hub to route radio traffic. Just need to disable the radios on the old hub.

Is migrating an existing Hubitat hub to this new one easy or do you have to manually move everything? If "yes" I may consider getting one now.

In my special case I needed a lot of z-wave repeaters to get past the first room cause of the build of the home, this having the stronger antennas should negate that and allow me to drop my repeaters. Outside of that the $99 will do everything else this does.

So C7 won't support Matter?
I have not seen any defeinite answer that they wont allow the C7 or even the C5 to support matter as they all share the same CPU/RAM. C8 is the only confirmed one to get support. Honestly though right now it sounds like MATTER is a cluster.... so I am not too worried about it.

Nope, I would stick what you got.

Thats what the migration and app tool is supposed to do, how well it actual works no clue though. Listed as a feature of moving to the C-8.

Hey smart guys, I'm running an old school almond+ router as strictly my home automation hub and it works mostly fine. Would getting one of these much newer hubs be a nice upgrade for me? How much learning curve to get my stuff setup?

I mean if everything is working for you fine currently, not sure you really need this. The benefits of this is more powerful and latest hardware version radios for Zigbee and Zwave so opens more future support paths and products. This works completely local so no internet is required which is a major plus. As for the learning curve, not that bad, most menus are pretty easy to follow along, and if you get stuck there are plenty of hubitat videos on youtube not to mention a treasure trove of forum posts for just about anything you can think about doing.

Meh, I guess. But launching at a lower price kinda means MSRP doesn't mean anything.

True that, still a good FYI though about a new product line for those people that might not be aware if anything. I believe on their YouTube they said new price is till the end of this month but I am not sure.

I was thinking the same thing, but I guess it's $40 off. When it hits $99 I'll be all over it.

Yeah I might buy it though. I'm still rocking the original hub with the external dongle.
