Yeah man, makes you wonder how we've made it through the last 50 years without LiFePO4

I get where you're coming from - it's fairly uncommon for lithium batteries to fail/conflagrate without being punctured. It does happen, however (chinese 'hoverboards', anyone?)... and these batteries are substantially larger and more dangerous if they were to combust vs your cell phone or laptop.

I prefer LFP for that added safety factor... but even more for their huge increase in battery service life.

ECOFLOW DELTA Mini battery chemistry NCM Li-ion
Cycle Life 800 cycles to 80% capacity

Conversely LiFePO4/LFP batteries can last a decade and handle 5,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge.

Delta Mini 2 with LiFePO4 chemistry coming soon, I guarantee it. This has a great form factor, but NCM kills this deal for me.

Everyone is right about LiFePo being safer with a longer life cycle. It also handles higher environmental temperatures better. And is even slightly better at holding its charge in storage with a bit better storage shelf-life.

But lithium-ion is more energy dense and lighter. And although not as safe as LiFePo, this unit is still very unlikely to cause problems. This device would be great if you want a power station to lug around a lot. It would be great for car camping or taking on day trips. A LiFePo battery with the same performance characteristics would be significantly bigger and heavier.

I got this same deal from Wellbots a while back and think it's a great value.

Delta 2 is 27 pounds and 1024 Wh, this is 23.6 lbs with ~880 Wh, and not all that much smaller, so "significant bigger and heavier" is a stretch. The D2 also has much higher output capacity, which adds to the weight too.

I'm curious where the new "Delta 2 Mini" end up in their whole lineup though. It seems a little too close to the Delta 2 for them to make the D2 Mini just like this one. They did re-shuffle the capacity/output offerings of the River 2 series units vs their first gen counterparts.

Bought it on Amazon. Going to be using it for powering some essential appliances during power outages.

Sure, I would love it if it's has the LFP battery, but I can't wait for another year or so till the new Delta 2 or "Delta 2 Mini" drop to this price again. If I completely cycle the battery once per week (highly unlikely), it's still going to take more than a decade to reach 800 cycles and I doubt the battery chemistry and inverter would last that long.

Significance is subjective. But Lithium-ion has an energy density at 150 to 200 Wh/kg vs LiFePo at only 90 to 120 Wh/kg. So for the battery portion a device, LiFePo could be over 60% heavier. Obviously, the whole device isn't battery so the percentage difference will be lower. And the Delta 2 might have lighter, slimmer non-battery components surrounding the battery.

But I believe LiFePo power stations will usually be about 30% heavier for the same capacity apples vs apples.

Edit: The Delta 2 is a newer gen device selling for over twice the price so not really apples to apples comparison

I need to run 3 space heaters in a remote cabin for 7 days and 7 nights. Can this do it?

Edit: Not a serious question guys, just a reference to the power station thread from yesterday.

Could something like this be used to power led Christmas lights in an area of a back yard with no electricity? Trying to figure out a solar option that would work.

You gotta run the number ...watt usage of each heater, how many hours each day you need to run; how much solar charge you will get etc. But most likely the answer is no

Space heaters usually consume lots of power (think 500-1500W). This wouldn't get anywhere close to 7 days.

I wouldn't recommend leaving this unit outside for long periods, especially if your locale is prone to snow and below-freezing temps during winter.
