Some of them are just people who don't know how to use a ultra short throw projector. One guy said projector sucks but was projecting on a wall and not a screen. Check out the reviews on projector central and projector screen reviews

It will look fine, but the challenge is mounting it perfectly so you don't have to use keystone correction. It's difficult enough siting on a console. You need to find a ceiling mount that has precise adjustability in all three axis. You'll need to flip the ALR screen also since UST ALR screens are designed to reject light from above. Plus you need to run wires down from the ceiling which defeats one of the advantages of a UST.

TL;DR It's doable but requires a lot of work. If your room allows for it go with a short throw (non-ultra) or standard throw.

Thanks for the reply. Previous owner had a actual 85" TV set up in the theater with all the surround sound wiring and everything at the front of the room. Although I have the room to use a standard throw, I wanted to avoid having everything re-wired to the back.

Will likely just keep it down on a console if it looks fine.

With UST, I always wonder on ways to keep it fixed on console table to avoid making adjustments each time it is used. Floor shakes, people knock console table, lot of other activities going on that may displace console table or move PJ out of place.

This one also checks many boxes for me but I'm not doing it because its an LG. I recently had a $1300 38" LG Ultragear monitor go bad on me at just 2 years old. LG only offers a 1 year warrantee with no exceptions...so now its a dead paperweight. If this projector had a 3 year warrantee like the Benq, then I'd be all over it. The price fluctuates by $100 on and off all the time on Amazon. Don't forget to factor in an ALR screen which will be over $600 depending on size. I've been considering a benq i3000x instead. Just can't decide if its worth $2k or to spend more on UST.

for those wondering, found that this projector is rated for 20k-30k hrs (30k in eco mode); spec sheet says up to 20k hrs

Power draw is 350W

How do these work on standard screens? I have a 100" Silver Ticket screen and an Optima 1080 Darbee that requires a real dark room and it's not very easily adjustable, so the picture is never 100% accurate in all corners. Is the quality of an ALR screen that much better than a regular screen with these USTs?

Yes. It's a sharp angle so alr screens are designed to put the light back towards you from the projector being mounted right below it.

Why not just buy the warranty for 3 years comes out around the same price as benq but it's brand new

Probably the best path to start. Keep in mind the distance from the wall needed for 100-120" image is generally longer than the depth of most consoles so you will have a 10-12" gap between the wall and the back of the console depending on the throw ratio of this projector. Also, the height of the console is important. I'm using one that is only 13" from floor to top surface. If your console is too high the projected image will be too high and will cause neck strain.

Not trying to dissuade you, this seems to be a slick deal, but make sure you understand what's involved. You can see from the Amazon reviews a lot of people have no idea what they're getting into and are disappointed in the results. UST projectors are great if set up correctly and used in the proper environment.
