I'm not a cycling guy, and I love Wera for their other tools, (I have a few of the joker wrench sets and the tool checks that I use constantly as well as a few others) but some of the reviews on Amazon scare me because they won't warranty these if they break or twist. I've personally broken and warrantied my wiha and bhondus keys in the past without trouble. I use L keys near daily when I work on CNC machines and I love the my various bhondus sets the best.

All of my rant said this is still a great deal for this set.

(My brakes on my ford fusion also need the 7mm lol)

For automotive stuff where you generally are using new hex fasteners when there is high torque I would get a socket hex set or the really long Bhondus sets. Hex Plus's main feature is not marring up and stripping fastener heads. Adam Savage's YT channel has a video on hex keys and I think he has the same opinion as you on which brands he likes around the CNC machines.

Agreed, although the 7mm carriers are not "that" high torque after reading a bit into it: definately more rare tho...7mm, 9mm are kinda weird.

I am an inexperienced home mechanic, have done only 2x F/R brake jobs so far (not on my Mazda yet to look for a 7mm : wonder if Mazda or Ford lead the fastener speccing, I understand this is in place for the platforms they shared), but I would do my best to torque sh!t with my torque wrench, even a HFT/chinesium one, vs "balling" it by hand with an L wrench. German or not 😀

The HFT torque wrench is actually pretty good in my experience, I've checked calibration on every one I've bought and they've all been within spec and have remained within spec for at least a couple of years.

Again, I agree. Even "sub-par calibrated" tools, are on average FAR superior in accuracy vs. wanna-be-great mechanics that think can eye-ball/hand-ball or whatever.

Some applications are not critical ofc, and you can get away with gross inaccuracies, others not so much, but if I was to "bet money" on someone achieving torques within few % points by hand or with a HFT torque wrench, I would reliably be in the "black" putting my $ on HFT's tools. For every unicorn "artist" mechanic that has a great feel for properly torquing stuff by hand, I expect dozen "overconfident apes" that will totally wing it.

Contractor here. These Hex set is by far the best I have ever used! Far superior to other brands on the market. I purchased many Wera products over the years at cost and have zero regrets.

While the cheap HF torque wrenches may be calibrated somewhat accurately, they are often inconsistent and may click out of range or fail to noticeably click. I wouldn't trust one on something important.

Honestly not a very good deal, unless you're a cyclist who already has another $27 worth of stuff ready to order. Still saves you $10 over Amazon, but I hate to ever pay for shipping--makes me feel dirty laugh out loud Still gets a rep from me.

Is there a reason to get these over the cheaper chrome plated ones? Does the coloring add several dollars of value, or is there something I'm missing?

The key is to check your tools before doing anything important and have redundancies in place where time is valued and one of the tools fails a check. All torque wrenches need to be checked at regular intervals regardless of brand.

There was an option to sign up on their website and it gave me 500 points as rewards. I was able to apply those at checkout for another -$5.00, the total with shipping was $25.78.

HF torque wrench I got on sale works great for torquing my oil drain plug, I bet most oil change places don't even follow the proper spec

If the total for product + S&H is less than Amazon's price, assuming you are a Prime member, in which case you should amortize your prime membership to X-shipments for the X times you've order less than $50 worth etc, who cares ?

Even if it was $1 for the wrenches and $25 purely for S&H, it is still a good deal for me Peace

And that's before counting in that I'd rather support Planet Cyclery or other small/medium-sized businesses than - yet again - Amazon.
