But when I've tried a few different items in my cart and make sure my Discover card with pleny of Cashback $ was set as payment method - but I didn't see any discounts applied. What items are valid? and how can I tell if I got the $20? Thanks.
1. Click on the promotion link to see that you're eligible.
2. Click on the "Activate promotion" button. And the page says something like "Your points will be applied at checkout..."
3. Didn't didn't use this same promotion before, especially if you're sharing the account with someone else.
4. Select an item that is eligible. Check that it is Sold and Shipped by Amazon.
5. Select your eligible Discover card as your payment method, especially if you have multiple Discover cards. And that you apply at least $0.01 points.
A "Discover 40% off" line should be added to your order summary. You can test this by adding an Amazon item (e.g., Amazon Fire tablet, Fire stick) to your cart and then going to the checkout screen. These items should always be eligible. Just make sure you don't place the order by accident

I have only seen an amazon offer for adding Bluecash first time long time ago.
I've had my discover card for probably about 20 years and they used to be even better with a lot more perks. One of my favorites was the price matching.
