History has taught me to outright avoid audio products by Philips.

History has taught you incorrectly.

Philips SHP9500 and Philips X2HR's are both fantastic headphones

I wonder how good the waterproofing is on something like this from Phillips? I use my portable speakers mostly for paddle boarding and they get very wet.

Well, it says it is IPX7 rated, which is supposed to be able to be submerged at 1 meter, for up to 30 minutes. But given that you're paddle boarding with it, I'd recommend something IPX8, if you want it to have a higher chance of living.

So what is the good solution?
Car stereo and upgraded car speakers are the best solution, but if you don't want to get into that expense, then you can use a louder stereo TV soundbar 110v, like a Vizio 36" TV sound bar. Use a 12v to 110v inverter.

You can find the BT TV soundbar used for around $100 and even 5.1 around $150, and the inverter for $20 from Amazon. You need to secure the setup in the car.

Or maybe I should just get a BT stereo that can play thru my car speakers?
Instead of replacing the car stereo, consider a Bluetooth FM transmitter. This solution worked very for me for many a years until I got a fancy pants bluetooth enabled car.

My ol dependable Charge 2 is not holding as much of a charge anymore - too much fun in the sun. Hard to find a direct comparison of sound quality between this and the JBL series... loved the JBL, but for the same price I could get two and voila stero sound is tempting. Can anyone compare this and the JBL series?

Philips TV and Audio are licensed to TPV. The TV license has been held by TPV for over a decade. Initially a joint venture and eventually Philips exited the TV business mid 10's. TPV also is the largest manufacturer of PC monitors. Their other brand is AOC. They are an OEM supplier for other PC monitor brands.

Audio has been with TPV since 2018 when Gibson declared bankruptcy.

The exceptions are Philips and Magnavox branded TVs, DVD and Blu-ray players sold in North America. They have been made by Funai of Japan starting around 2008. Funai also has the license to Sanyo. Funai is the number one Japanese seller of TVs in the US. Just goes to show how far Japanese branded TVs have given ground to Chinese and South Korean companies Magnavox audio products are licensed to Craig.

Philips is still my go to brand. They continue to produce good value products. Not the flashiest, just getting the basics right at an acceptable price. All the batteries in my Bluetooth headphones and wireless speakers still work, even after a decade.

It doesn't support USB C to C charging. Only A to C.

Very unfortunate since I wanted to replace my Charge 3 that uses micro-USB.
