Nothing beats charcoal for flavor.
Nothing beats the ease of shutdown and cleanup like propane.
It's really true ...if you are going for speed , propane. Charcoal takes 20 minutes to get ready with a chimney starter.. but nothing beats the tastes of cooking with charcoal.

I am in the market for a portable grill. Can someone convince me to do charcoal rather than propane?

Is this better than the Weber Go Anywhere Charcoal Grill?

I'm definitely curious as to how well this works as a tailgate grill. I got in on the $100 ZGrills portable pellet grill and I love it. But I know a few people that missed it and might have an interest.

Unfortunately, and as an FYI for those looking for the smoking option... This has 2 limitations as a smoker that I can see. 1: the height. I don't know a pork shoulder won't be hitting the top, and 2: the lowest temps aren't good if you're wanting to smoke up some jerky.

I hope to find it has enough room for a pork shoulder, but seems a little hard to get details. If anyone knows, please pass on the knowledge.

Nothing beats the combined shutdown, cleanup, and flavor of pellet smokers. Best of all worlds.

I agreed. Judging by the dimensions picture, the lid is about 3.5" in height, which is too tiny for pork shoulder.

In for one as my current portable grill is a Coleman. Pretty nice upgrade for me.

I have a hard time thinking of a use case where I'd be wanting to be smoking jerky with something like this - it's too small to make the quantity of jerky i'd want to make at once and it's also meant for cooking/smoking like at a picnic/camping/tailgate, which aren't really places I think about smoking jerky.

I completely understand. BUT... for someone looking to get into it and see if it's worth it to get a full size smoker, pellet grill or gravity grill, it could serve as a launchpad and then be reserved as a tailgater going forward. For the price, it's a great "exploratory" grill. Not the target audience, but one that I like to help out when I can.
