It's really true ...if you are going for speed , propane. Charcoal takes 20 minutes to get ready with a chimney starter.. but nothing beats the tastes of cooking with charcoal.

I don't quite get how this would work. There isn't enough power in 4 AA batteries to smoke for 6 hours. And if they are just there to start the coals then the coals are going to do what coal do, burn.

This doesn't start the coals, the user does. The batteries just run the fan.
I am in the market for a portable grill. Can someone convince me to do charcoal rather than propane?
A lot of stadiums like SoFi don't allow charcoal. Many campsites are gas fire only. I've seen people get caught out by not having gas. Depends where you are and what your use case is.
Also, a lot of reviews complain about max temp being around 500-550F. A bit low if you want to do something like reverse sear.
Unclear if you can put charcoal under the grates. If you can't it's basically just a portable smoker and you won't be searing anything. But the video show flipping steaks and fire coming up from the grates.
Nothing beats the combined shutdown, cleanup, and flavor of pellet smokers. Best of all worlds.
I can see where you're coming from but I still have to vacuum out the remnants of the pellets from my pellet grill. So shutdown yes, clean up close second. Neither the charcoal or propane beats the pellet for consistency. I just don't see how anyone can grill without one of each.
I'm sold on this one, but my wife won't let me in the house if I come home with another grill.

Picked up this grill and cart combo for around $189 earlier this year. I love it. Just smoked baby back ribs on it for about 4 hrs. Love the charcoal and Smokey flavor (added hickory wood chips). Nice smoke ring on the ribs. I had refill the little hopper about 2.5 times. I have this alongside my propane broil king baron.

From where? I really like the look of the cart but not at almost $200 more

Not exactly sure about the niche market this is targeting. I have a masterbuilt 800 I got from Costco for $400 and that smoked all the meats for my wedding. Big win.
this is just too small to smoke and not hot enough to sear. I've been thinking about getting a portable/tabletop charcoal grill for camping and weeknights but this is just weirdly between the Weber Go anywhere and Oklahoma Joe rambler. Maybe I'll just get a Smokey Joe on FB. Plenty enough space for burgers or steaks for 2
