As expected (for the price and brand) this LATCH system is the traditional captive metal hook. Nothing wrong with these, but they typically present a bigger challenge when moving a safety device from car to car. I've seen some (more expensive) Graco models with an updated LATCH hook, more akin to what is found on devices from Chicco [chiccousa.com] (for example).

Of course, with the right car (particularly those where the LATCH system is accessible and not buried within the cushions) and the right operator (my own hand strength is limited) the challenge presented by these older style hooks would be minimized.

This one is better for a different reason...the armrests on the Walmart one have a flimsy fabric cover that constantly falls off. This one is a solid rubbery armrest and is much better.
