These bit cases are not packout compatible, where the new bit cases are... the new style bit cases now fit snugly into the packout cases. These don't. So you will probably see more and more deals on these old bit sets.

Home depot is selling some of the new style cases, but not empty, yet.
Some online retailers like AcmeTool and ToolNut are selling the new style packout bit cases empty, without any bits. Home Depot is only selling the new bit cases full of bits....at a higher cost. So if you already have a ton of bits and don't need any more, but want the new style bit cases, you can order just the empty bit cases from Acmetool or Toolnut, but not from Home Depot, at least not yet.
The new bit cases are called packout customizable bit cases and now come in several standard sizes so that they fit in the packout organizers securely. A lot of the old style bit cases were random sizes that didn't fit in any secure way into the packout organizers. Milwaukee fixed that with these new bit cases, made to now fit in the packout organizers.
Here is an example of one of the old style cases...

Notice the hinges are top/bottom and the bit holders have square openings? To remove the bits from these holders, you have to grab the bit and slide it up and out of the top of the holder... often resulting in cut fingers on sharp bits or drill bits.
Now the below case is one of the new style packout cases.

Notice on this case how the hinge is now continuous, goes all the way from top to bottom.
And also notice the difference in the bit holders.. They no longer have the square/rectangle opening and now are completely open on the side... now you can simply tip the bit towards the side and the bits come out way easier now. no more sore fingers. These cases are also sized to now fit snugly in the packout cases like this.

The new style cases are a BIG improvement.

etsy/ebay printed 3D bins and stuff, YES. But all the 3D printed packout stuff I have tried in the past has been total crap. They just don't hold up. All the 3D printed bins I ordered started breaking and falling apart before too long. It's just the wrong material for this type of thing. Not flexible enough. 3D printed parts are too rigid and it ends up breaking or falling apart.
