The mind-blowing new thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Dark Matter and Recursion—currently in development as a motion picture at Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners

"You are the next step in human evolution."

At first, Logan Ramsay isn't sure if anything's different. He just feels a little . . . sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorizing better, needing less sleep.

But before long, he can't deny it: Something's happening to his brain. To his body. He's starting to see the world, and those around him—even those he loves most—in whole new ways.

The truth is, Logan's genome has been hacked. And there's a reason he's been targeted for this upgrade. A reason that goes back decades to the darkest part of his past, and a horrific family legacy.

Worse still, what's happening to him is just the first step in a much larger plan, one that will inflict the same changes on humanity at large—at a terrifying cost.

Because of his new abilities, Logan's the one person in the world capable of stopping what's been set in motion. But to have a chance at winning this war, he'll have to become something other than himself. Maybe even something other than human.

And even as he's fighting, he can't help wondering: what if humanity's only hope for a future really does lie in engineering our own evolution?

Intimate in scale yet epic in scope, Upgrade is an intricately plotted, lightning-fast tale that charts one man's thrilling transformation, even as it asks us to ponder the limits of our humanity—and our boundless potential.

It's good, but nowhere on the same level as Dark Matter or Recursion (or Wayward Pines for that matter). Both of those balance out the action and cerebral elements better, Upgrade leans more into the action elements.

Just my opinion of course. Still worth the read though.

Only SciFi Goodreads 2022 winner that I really liked so far. Suggest reading Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang after, interesting how one of the stories in the Chiang book is similar. I got both from Libby.

Couldn't have said it better. I was so excited for this one after loving Dark Matter and Recursion so much. And while a 'fun' read for sure, I enjoyed the others much more.

This book was good, but it let me down compared to his other books. My top 5 favorite Blake Crouch books in order starting at best are Abandon, Run, Dark Matter, Recursion, Wayward.

Another book that's free on Libby.
Nice, congrats on having access to a decent local library to use with Libby. Some don't have that privilege Wink

I didn't like Wayward Pines, it had too many logical and technical inconsistencies, I felt cheated.
It's been a while since I've read it, but I'm a post apocalyptic story junkie so I probably overlooked some stuff Big Grin

The tv show they attempted to make based on Wayward Pines was literally unwatchable though. Absolute trash, which makes no sense given the cast that was attached.

Dang, it's been on my Hulu to-watch list forever.

You can get a library card from Miami-Dade Public Library System online that would allow you to use Libby.

The things in Wayward Pines don't align at all when you read it as a post-ap junkie! I'd love to discuss it, but it is not possible without major spoilers.
