I'm already in the Milwaukee ecosystem so bought this wrench last month for $149 and thought it was a screaming deal.

My use case is strictly homeowner working on his own cars or light assembly.

Reviews [youtube.com] show it breaking bolts torqued to 600/ft lbs so unless you're a heavy line mechanic or need to work on farm equipment the 3/8 has plenty of power, is lighter and gets into tighter spaces. Lug nuts on passenger cars and trucks should be no challenge.

If you don't get batteries free from work (heh) be sure to get the lighter, more powerful High Output CP3.0 [milwaukeetool.com] with 21,700 cells (defined by its 21mm x 70mm size.)

Here's the slightly overbearing VCG Construction [youtube.com] guy to explain why.

FWIW the M12 stubby goes for around the same, maybe a few bucks less, and is probably a better overall impact wrench than this for most DIY mechanics who only work on their own cars, because it's smaller and lighter, especially with batteries on, and you'll rarely come across a fastener that it can't handle, including lug and axle nuts and nearly all suspension fasteners. But for those times where it can't, and you don't feel like using a breaker bar with cheater pipe, then this would be a great backup wrench.

If you're only looking to do tire rotations, oil changes and the occasional brake pad/rotor replacement, then it doesn't really matter so might as well get this and be covered for basically all situations (on cars, not trucks). But if you're going to be doing a lot of wrenching, repairs, restoration, maintenance, etc., then you'll definitely appreciate and prefer the M12 stubby over this and basically anything. There's literally nothing out there of comparable power that's as small and light.

Depends on which sockets you have more of. But 3/8" will usually be more common and are thinner sockets overall. Torque Test Channel also found that the M18 3/8" mid torque makes more torque than the 1/2" version.

Is the seller legitimate? Not sold by Amazon, afraid if I order it won't be legitimate Milwaukee, a few sellers with low ratings selling at same price.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The 3/8 stubby is an absolute game changer. I just stripped 2x mercruiser 350's in my garage and did all but like 2 bolts using my M12 stubby. The others wouldn't break free with my 1/2" Mac air gun and needed a massive breaker bar with cheater pipe. It may take a full second or two to break a tight lug nut free but the light weight and compact size more than makes up for that.

I tried using the M12 Fuel Impact driver to loosen the nuts on my tire via adaptors and it wouldn't budge at all. Would this Impact Wrench far better ie have better torque?

I just need something to break loose the sacrificial anode in my water heater; would this work / be an overkill?

Definitely overkill. M12 stubby loosened my rheem factory fastened anode within half sec.

M12 Fuel Impact Driver has 1,200inlbs of torque, that's 100ftlbs...
this Impact Wrench has 600ftlbs of torque...

yes, the Impact Wrench is 6x stronger and meant for the job you're trying to do, the Impact Driver is not.

Wouldn't the impacting potentially crack the glass lining of the tank interior and therefore expose the steel to water, ie. more rust? I think heat and breaker bar would be better.

Well, after I read the review video clips from Torque Test Channel with the links below, I decided to skip and be happy with my $99 home depot ryobi 1/2 + 3/8 + battery/charger kit. The Ryobi 1/2 can provide 375 ft-lbs and this one can only add 75 @ 451 ft-lbs...

Can this do lug nuts over the 1/2?

Nvm delete, 1/2 in is better for lugnuts
This will work for most lug nuts as long as they were torqued on properly the last time they were installed. They may not get off big truck lug nuts but worked fine on my jeep nuts that are torqued to 110lbs. It's a good impact. The bigger 1/2" impact (not the 2960 w a 1/2", but the bigger impact) can overtighten lugs if you don't have it on a lower setting - it's also a good tool. This 2960 in 3/8 is more versatile imo than the bigger 1/2" impact, but really depends on the tools you usually use/already have.

Sorry, this is not very slick unless you only buy tools from Amazon or Home Depot.

This is just what I was thinking.
That, and the chamfer on my breaker bar and socket wouldn't let me get a good bite on the nut so I ended up going to a plumbing supply store and getting a socket specifically for a heater element.

You used the wrong tool for the job. I know there are people out there saying that you can use an Impact Driver to do work on vehicles, but it's not what it was designed for.
Someone else posted the torque specs, and that tells you how different the tools are.
This Impact Wrench is what you needed. (actually, probably can make do with the M12 stubby)
