For $40 difference, I would say go with this one. 2x endurance, DRAM, TLC, low temps, faster speeds.

Buy 2 or more if you need to. Arguably the best Gen 3 nvme out there for laptops and even desktops.

Great drive. Bought in Sept 2022 for $160. This is a no brainer IMO and by all measurements better than the 970 Evo +.

Would also make a great external drive.

While not gen 4 this is still an excellent price for an excellent drive. Have one installed on my laptop, runs noticeably cooler than stock.

I paid $170 for mine back in December… and I thought that was a good deal, this is a buy now think later kinda price!

Just searched on Slickdeals. The lowest it has ever been was $145, and that was last year on December. I'm just afraid it won't go lower than this on Black Friday.

Where are the forecasters when you NEED them? They would say there is an oversupply of NAND right now but I'm not sure whether they would say to hold off on this.

Does anyone know if the P31 ships with the latest version of the software on it or do I need to update the firmware first to make it Mac compatible?

Trying to replace the hard drive in an older mac book for the first time so any help is appreciated.
The last 2tb P31 I bought had the latest.

Hard to recommend when SN850X has been in same price area lately.
Not true. Would recommend the P31 for a laptop and SB850x for desktop. Have both.

There is a firmware update to get it to work with Macs. You will need a PC to run it though. A good NVMe.
I have been running these (3) on macs without an issue, One in a laptop, 2 in enclosures. Great drives! No firmware updates. I have 31060C20.

How does this compare to the Intel 670p on sale for $80?
The P31 is a great system drive for a laptop, prob close to the best. TLC + cache + cool

670p for $80 is a great drive for storage.

So depends what your needs are.

For current low prices on 2TB, SN850X for desktop OS/gamers ~ $150, P31 for laptop OS ~ $120, 670p for storage ~ $80.

I am running 2 in RAID 0 TB3 enclosures, about 6500 MBps and cool. Thats blistering fast for 4TB.

Would this work in a Tesla for Sentry Mode storage. Or is this better: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cruc...Id=6457929

Patiently waiting for 4TB storage SSDs to reach $100. I know I'll be waiting a bit wince 2TB is only down to $80 now. Maybe by BF. Want to build a low cost/power/portable backup server.

Here's what I found at https://www.tomshardware.com/news...march-2023

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

We've long known that a glut of NAND flash memory and lowering manufacturing costs are now being passed along to the consumer, with typical reductions of 15 to 30 percent in just the last 60 days. Back in October, analysts predicted that, by mid-2023, the price of drives would drop by 50 percent.

Bottom Line
Now is a great time to buy an SSD, because prices have dropped substantially. However, there's a decent chance that we're not at the bottom yet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can't decide to buy now or wait. Confused

This is easily the best gen 3 SSD. But I would say go for the Intel 670p unless you NEED what this SSD provides. It provides:

- double the write endurance but most people won't get close to those numbers realistically.
- TLC. Unlike the QLC Intel drive, the write speeds on this won't slow down as you drop below 256GB of free space.
- lowest idle power consumption of any gen 3 or gen 4 SSD ever. Watts per Gigabyte written is also better than all other gen 3 drives but is only on par with the top end gen 4s.
- very low operating temps comparatively.

Why would anyone choose this over the crucial p5 plus 2tb nvme for the same price?
