You need wifi in the place you want to use a smart plug.
That said, these don't have ground holes. Wouldn't get them...

I have one and bought few years ago. It work fine, but since I bought the smart plug, this kind timer is useless.

Agreed, however, there are plenty of people (especially older people) who are incapable of doing exactly that. Many of these people are my tech clients, and they pay me to download and install things for them.

I have a couple of these on lamps.
Work great. Set and forget.
having one on your router to reset daily (or off at 2:59am and on at 3:00am) or similar is a useful application for me. one of my wyze cams seems to drop wifi occasionally so i might pick up another and set it to do a daily reset also.

I also have wifi ones for other uses, and have found that post power outage or wifi issues they don't reset correctly or default to on/off etc. Sometimes "dumb" is better

Biggest usecase for this, and even newer smart plugs is going to be lighting (holiday lighting, plug-in lamps, etc), which don't usually have a ground connection. Having a ground is definitely better and allows more flexibility for more use-cases, but isn't really going to be used in many, if not most applications.

Yep. Everyone has different skill sets. Tech people pay me for things like basic electrical work, small engine repair, easy appliance fixes, rudimentary home maintenance, and lots of other things that have been simple for me since childhood, but seem to be beyond their comprehension.

These things cost $6.50 each. No big deal.

I bought this pack 10 years ago to turn a lamp with a high-powered blueish CFL bulb into a "sunrise" lamp (never used the second timer.) I'd say it's been worth it. I don't even change the time for DST.

I have a greenhouse that my wifi signal doesn't reach. I have no choice but to use what you called dumb plugs for grow lights
