I haven't been in the market for luggage for a long time, but have been lightly looking for the past week. What's the deal with these companies listing the dimension for the "storage" portion in the name of the product when that isn't even the size that airlines use for carry-ons? If the wheels aren't detachable, the only dimensions should be the whole thing plus the wheels, no?

Yes. Mine cracked just 2 RT and samsonite denied the warranty. Never again.

From what I've seen in reviews, yes. From my research, experience, and reviews, I can say the Samsonite Omni is the best because of the more flexible hard shell. Been on lots of road trips, quite a few flights, and several cruises...plus have a teenage boy who scares me every time they way he gives the zipper no mercy -- even with the thing stuffed!

the 27'' one is too heavy 13.9lbs which make you can throw less stuff in order to meet the weight limitation.

I've also been frustrated while looking for luggage recently. Most airlines have a restriction of 62 linear inches for checked baggage. Many manufacturers (Samsonite and Travelpro) are making 29" luggage that is 65" linear (3" over the limit), or the 25" luggage that is 57" linear (5" below the limit). I don't want to risk an oversize fee every time I travel, but I'd like to be able to maximize what can be packed. Why these manufacturers don't aim for as close as possible to 62" without going over is beyond me!

I'm not a huge traveler but myself and son usually have bags OGIO 9800 bags which are 67" and they never checked size, only the weight. That said, it is super easy to overstuff a larger bag over 50lbs, so consider that aspect.

I also have an OGIO Trucker Gear Bag. It measures right at the magic 62" if you are looking for that exact size. Not a hard shell but roomy.

Yea, I just know that the one time they do check size, it is going to cost me $50, and knowing me... I'll be the one who gets called out for it. And yes, I am aware of the weight limit becoming an issue at that size. Thanks for the recommendation on the OGIO... it is certainly an interesting concept, and I'm going to look into it further. Thanks!

Hi! Is this the set you recommend? Ever had issues with the carryon being told its "too big" and has to be checked?

That's the one! And no issues with it being too big, but I haven't been on sprit or frontier -- I think those are the ones that might give you grief over it. Small fits fine in overhead of other airlines and even on shelf in airport shuttles.
