it has super nice touchpad and keyboard. Screen is responsive and large. Great for kids at school. Wish Acer release something similar with windows in the same price range.

I bought Lenovo's gaming chromebook (the Intel i3 edition) at Walmart for $400 when ASUS, Acer and Lenovo all released their hardware last October. I definitely like the Lenovo, but for $50 more you get more double storage and faster CPU.

I bought one earlier in the week, and I concur that the screen is large and responsive (this is the first time I have a laptop with a 120Hz screen). If you are in the market for a Chromebook, you like large screens, and portability is not a major concern (for example, you are not taking it on a trip), this should be your top pick, especially at this price.

For anything you want to do inside chrome os, yes.
I was using a throwaway chromebook taking a machine learning class, and ram didn't really limit running python scripts even on very large (6gb+) datasets.

I need to keep an eye on these, since the biggest drawback to moving my dad from a windows notebook to chromebook was screen size.

For normal chromebook use definitely. If you're doing a lot of stuff in linux in crostini maybe not.

OTOH the specs this chromebook has are kind of unnecessary if you're just using the browser.

So personally it's tempting but I may wait until there's a deal on a 16gb one.

I don't think you can upgrade the ram on any (or at least virtually any?) chromebooks unfortunately because being able to upgrade to 16gb would make this deal absolutely fantastic.

I can't confirm whether you can upgrade the ssd on this one. Some of the m.2 nvme ones you can though; you just need to reinstall the os by booting into recovery using the appropriate key combination and then, when prompted, inserting a usb stick that you create an image on from another computer using a chrome extension.

Picked mine up from Best Buy today. The device itself is really nice! Key board is excellent. Trackpad really nice. Speakers can get pretty darn loud. Not Apple laptop quality, but louder than I need, which is rare. Screen is fantastic for media consumption. Great colors. As nice as it is, I've decided I'm a glossy screen type person. The colors just pop a smidge better than on these matte screens. The reflections don't bother me at all. I know many are just the opposite. Not a huge deal and not complaining. Just if I had the choice, I'd go glossy.

Unfortunately I'll be returning mine for a new one. The box looked like it had been stretched on the sides and you could tell the cords had been used before by the way they were wrapped. There's also a slight ding in the metal top. And the white keyboard cover was 1/4 hanging out when I took it out of the box. So Best Buy sold me a used one. No question about it. I assume they will do an exchange. Never tried this before.

I had $125 in certificates so this made the deal even better. For those wanting a larger nice chromebook, this is definitely it!!

I waited months for this deal and thought it would have more traction.
The 350 nits, 120hz, is rare. In my hands, it is all nice, especially the symmetrical bezels.
The speakers are a bad experience. They get loud enough and don't crackle or distort, but they sound like they're inside a plastic tunnel. I can't put up with the low-fidelity sound.

I just picked up my second one. (returned the first one in above comments) Unfortunately the speakers aren't as loud as the first one. Not sure why. But I won't say they are terrible. Just less volume. I've had much worse on most laptops. I just purchased a blue tooth speaker to have beside me while using it. The screen more than makes up for the average speakers in my mind. Will be interesting if they upgrade this model in 2023.
