Steam Deck is without a doubt the best tech purchase I've made in a long time.

If you are somewhat tech savvy I recommend the 64GB model paired with a 512GB or 1TB micro SD card. You can always upgrade the internal SSD if necessary. The issue with the 64GB is shaders must be stored on internal drive, not SD card, so between the OS and shaders the drive fills up fast.

If you don't feel like messing with opening the deck up, go for the 256GB model paired with a 1TB micro SD card.

The 512GB model only worth it for anti glare screen if you feel like you'll be playing it often outside.

Some must have programs for deck:

Decky loader - plugin manager for themes, power tools, and much more

EmuDeck- old school games emulation

Steam Rom Manager - adds your emulation game to steam, categorized by system with full game box and cover art

I also highly recommended a 45w power bank, the decks biggest weakness is battery life, you'll want a battery pack for travel

Be aware not all games run out of the box. Some require tweaking or custom proton versions to run properly.

ProtonDB.com lists game compatibility for all games and is a great resource, it's also a plug-in for decky

It has not. The company has stated very recently there is not a new version coming anytime soon. Stop spreading BS

There is only one m.2 slot so you'll remove the 64gb ssd and change it with a 1tb ssd. There are walkthroughs on youtube and from Valve on how to replace it.

I've had my steam deck since launch(512gb model), besides the loud fan which is fixed. My gripes with it is how HUGE it is. I mean this thing ain't take it anywhere... I rather grab my switch lite most of time time if I want to throw something in my bag for a quick trip.

With that said it's a good machine... just be aware how large the thing is. It sits in my desk drawer rarely used.. it was a impulse buy so... lol.
I'd be happy to take it off your hands for a fair price.

I ended up getting this Samsung PM991a 1TB SSD for $76.99. Hope it's not a dud, from what I read a lot of people have used it before.

I got the 1TB one from WD on AliExpress. It was about $87. Came super fast. Like 4 days. Works perfectly.

Ended up ordering the 256GB version. Watched way to many videos and read to many comments on which version to buy. Have a gaming laptop but interested in this to play a few different games while traveling for work on planes and sitting in bed where using the laptop is not as convenient.

Not sure this is the best way but I thought this was interesting. Requires a 512 GB card which happens to be on sale.

How is the screen on this? I have trouble playing gamepass cloud through my s22 ultra and razor controller. The screen is just too small. Is this an improvement on ability to see things on screen?
It was for me. I was playing GamePass on my Backbone and this is a huge improvement.

Between a battery pack and this, might as well pick up a 3050 laptop from the other thread for $600 bucks. You get a full window machine that works right out of the box…

This is cool concept, but it definitely needs to be smaller with better battery life

I mean maybe, but it depends on what you are looking for. This deal was enough for me to pull the trigger on the Deck, and I'm looking forward to using it while traveling at the airport and on the plane, and also at my house in bed or on the couch. In none of these situations would I pull out a laptop and controller and start playing games, but a handheld sure.

There may be some overlap in capabilities, but the Steam Deck is a different form factor vs. a laptop and really serve different purposes.

Think of it this way, do you have the free time in your regular schedule to play or would you have to make time? In your "free" time, do you know if you'll be playing or doing some thing else?
No to all of those answers.

In for one.
