Steam Deck is without a doubt the best tech purchase I've made in a long time.

If you are somewhat tech savvy I recommend the 64GB model paired with a 512GB or 1TB micro SD card. You can always upgrade the internal SSD if necessary. The issue with the 64GB is shaders must be stored on internal drive, not SD card, so between the OS and shaders the drive fills up fast.

If you don't feel like messing with opening the deck up, go for the 256GB model paired with a 1TB micro SD card.

The 512GB model only worth it for anti glare screen if you feel like you'll be playing it often outside.

Some must have programs for deck:

Decky loader - plugin manager for themes, power tools, and much more

EmuDeck- old school games emulation

Steam Rom Manager - adds your emulation game to steam, categorized by system with full game box and cover art

I also highly recommended a 45w power bank, the decks biggest weakness is battery life, you'll want a battery pack for travel

Be aware not all games run out of the box. Some require tweaking or custom proton versions to run properly.

ProtonDB.com lists game compatibility for all games and is a great resource, it's also a plug-in for decky

It has not. The company has stated very recently there is not a new version coming anytime soon. Stop spreading BS

There is only one m.2 slot so you'll remove the 64gb ssd and change it with a 1tb ssd. There are walkthroughs on youtube and from Valve on how to replace it.

Battery life is just too poor for any major in-flight gaming. It's not a well optimized device and it's no fun trying to tweak every game to squeeze out power. Better off with a Switch. It needs to be fanless before it can be seen as a serious gaming device.
Absolutely not. I regularly get 3-6 hours out of it, from Borderlands 3 to The Wolf Among Us. There's a reason my Switch is collecting dust.

Sorry if I am asking the same question, what is the preferred 2230 NVME to use to upgrade? Which brand, size and cost? Thanks a ton!

They told me to refund it as well and order it again. Wouldn't it be more cost efficient for them just to go the credit route? I guess I'll go through the motions of boxing it up and sending it back lol.

Just a follow up on my original post. I ended up going a different route for the case. Seems as though benazcap makes a solid clear case. I went the clear route since I don't want the skin to be obscured. If needed, I think I might be able to use the deckmate adapter on this case if I ever decide to get it in the future. For now though, I think I should be all set.

Here's what I ended up getting:

Western Digital SN740 NVMe SSD (2TB) - came to around $190 with tax https://m.aliexpress.us/item/3256...c6533eed64

SanDisk Extreme microSD (1TB) - came to around $105 with tax https://www.newegg.com/sandisk-1t...jmpg5gdzbw

Check out my post from a couple pages back for more details.

Great deal especially for the 64GB model. I just purchased one on 3/14 so I emailed Valve asking to honor the price difference
Did they honor it?

You don't need it until you receive it. Then it gets played for a month and put away for a year. Game on or not. It's only money.

They all say like a month shipping but in my experience it's always been fast. I ordered in late Feb and got it the very next week.
Is this legit memory? Why is it in Russian or whatever language this is lol.
