Funny story, I ended up using a surveillance drive as a desktop drive.. oddly enough it was the "approved" drive to go into the Direct TV DVR add-on (basically just a usb dock you hooked up to the DVR) we've stopped using since then when we stopped using DirectTV... and it works great as a desktop drive too. I did some research apparently surveillance drives are just fine to use as desktop drives in general and my surveillance drive has been working great for backups too, just recently restored a windows backup drive image from it actually using macrium reflect.

I should qualify that statement though ... I'm using the drive to store files, given how cheap SSD drives are I definitely would NOT advise using it as say your C/Windows drive ... if your motherboard has a slot for an m2 drive get one of those , even the M2's are selling relatively cheap compared to their normal price right now... or if your MB doesn't support M2's the crucial MX500 2.5 form factor drives are selling $52 for 1 TB size right now on best buy and newegg (they go in and out of stock at amazon for about the same price too)

I believe this is the lowest for this particular higher end drive (i.e., Exos > Ironwolf Pro > Ironwolf) ; it's also <$15/tb.
This is pretty cheap for THIS much storage, is this the lowest it's been?

This price is on par with several deals in the past month or so. In my opinion, it's a great deal at less than $14.50 per terabyte for an Enterprise-level drive (albeit these drives are toward the bottom of the Enterprise stack). The 5 year warranty helped pushed me to make the decision.

I decided to grab three during the last deal. I felt it was probably time to upgrade the three twelve-year-old (yes, 12 years!) 2TB drives that had been in (mostly) constant use during that span.

I've been very happy with these drives so far and performance seems great for my NAS application.

I got this system (link below) and trying to upgrade the HDD. It has 512GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD and that should work fne for my use. I now need a 6-8TB external hard drive to clone archived data from this 8TB HDD for a decent home backup solution for all my data.

Me when HDD price falls: oh price will fall more according to the trend, don't buy now just yet.

Also me when HDD price doesn't fall: price is too high, wait until it falls.

Would it be a good idea to put this in an external enclosure and connect it to my router as a Plex media server?
